Can anyone please help, I'm pregnant and due in 11 weeks and I have really bad bum grape and I'm worried it will turn into a hemroid, I've been in pain with it for 3 days and I'm using the anusol cream but it doesn't seem to be getting better, it's hurts that much it takes my breath away and is making me cry, can anyone help or suggest anything that I should do? Thank you 😊

@Yummymummy2020

Have you tried movicol? I found the lactolose was crap for me, did nothing. What helped a bit were those cool pack maternity pads! I haven’t even given birth yet this time and am using them for the same issue you have! It really gets in on you the constant pain and it makes you anxious about going to the toilet! I turned the baby bath upside down and put my feet on it in place of those squatting potty things it helped. Also boots sell a foam by Frida mom that is cooling and comforting. I have been using the expert mid wife spritz for bits too on my pile it seems to help the discomfort. I found it great after my last baby too as I was very sore. Amazon also sell cool packs especially for piles but I haven’t tried those myself. I’m dreading the state I’ll be in after the birth too so trying to get mine under control now ahead so I don’t destroy myself altogether!!!
Thank you so much for your advice I will look into all of these. Can I ask as you mentioned you had it with your last pregnancy did they just go away for did you have to have them removed? Was yours also a prolapsed hemroid? X

@Seaoftroubles

PinkSpots l agree with Yummymummy, a cool pack, or ice wrapped in cling film, and held against the haemorrhoid will help. As it is external you need a cream to apply rather than something you insert. I had the same as you when pregnant, it was a long while ago but l remember l was prescribed a cream called Xyloproct ( not Scheriproct as l thought before) and it really helped with pain and swelling. Ask your G. P for that as l'm sure it would help you.
I thought I needed a cream and not something you insert as it's the actual he food that's hurts! But the doctor said I needed something that was internal! They should of let me go in and see them rather than over the phone! They can't diagnose you properly over the phone! X

@meltybuttons

I had a golf ball sized mass of piles come on within 12 hours when I was 24 weeks pregnant, I had to go to A&E (advised by 111). I was crying in agony for a day after. Wasn't prescribed anything stronger than Anusol because of the pregnancy.

They did give me a prescription for Instillagel which numbs the skin around the piles and reduces pain, can you ask for this? It does help.

I'm sorry to say I still have them, 9 months after giving birth. Try and get it reduced now with the excellent advice from pp, and rest loads!

I will ask to see if I can have that cream! Thank you so so much! Will they not remove them? X

@ShroomShroom

I used some round cotton pads (the kind you use for removing makeup), soaked in witch hazel and kept in the fridge. You can buy similar things premade but this was much cheaper Grin The great thing with these is you can kind of wrap the pad around the offending pile. I did also need to have a panty liner because there can be some moisture!

I sympathise though as I attribute the pain of mine along with the perineal pain after giving birth for contributing to my PND.

Thank you so much for the advice at this point I will literally try anything! Getting so depressed at the minute I don't smile or laugh and feel like it's putting a strain on mine and my husbands relationship :( x

Have they given you the scheriproct suppositories and cream OP, or just the suppositories?

Seaoftroubles · 17/05/2021 11:18

PinkSpots, you need to be really assertive with your G. P and insist you need pain relief. If the pile is prolapsed it needs the cream to use externally to give relief. lnternal piles can be dealt with later! I had Xyloproct which contains lidocaine and hydrocortisone and it really helped. I have done a search and unfortunately it is not recommended now in pregnancy ( even though negative effects are unlikely!) but Scheriproct and lnstillagel ( as mentioned by Meltybuttons) should still be OK to be prescribed. Speak to your G. P and explain your distress and desperation. Don't hold back. Write down the names of the products so you can request them directly and if refused ask for an alternative that can at least give pain relief. Good luck!

Thank you so much I'm going to try my best to get a face to face appointment as they can't do anything with our actually seeing it! Honestly GPS and be really useless x

You need the cream too my lovely, it made a huge difference to me almost immediately. They very least they can do is give you that, it should be a quick sort over the phone.

In the meantime if you smush up one of the suppositories you can dab it on straight away and every time you go to the loo which should help. I kept getting blood clots in mine and my God it was sore, if that's the case with you it will ease off from that horrible stabbing pain once the clot goes. My GP tried to get mine seen by a consultant, but they wouldn't touch it while I was pregnant - having since heard how sore having them treated is meant to be I'm relieved about that to be honest.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 18/05/2021 08:04

Sanitary towels in the freezer, anusol, use very sensitive wet wipes (trust me you don’t want to delicately dab your wee and end up with nappy rash), take anything to make your poo soft (ask your doctor what you can take).

Worse than childbirth in my opinion!

Hippychickster · 18/05/2021 08:33

I had one a while ago and my doctor said not to have hot baths or use heat as that makes the blood flow to the pile.

She gave me some latex (or plastic) gloves which I filled with water and froze. If you break a finger off it fits perfectly between your bum cheeks. It was the best tip ever.

I hope you get some relief. They are horrible and I really feel for you.

Seaoftroubles · 18/05/2021 09:30

Great advice in the last 3 posts! The frozen finger idea is genius, please do try that whilst you are waiting to get the cream prescribed.

Thank you so much honestly! I have been trying everything on this post and so far nothing is working! What the doctor gave me has not touched it at all! I finally managed to get some preparation H cream today so hoping that sorts it out! But it's rock solid right now but I'm hoping it will go up by it's self but I'm scared with it being as big as it is that it won't but no matter the size will it still go back up? X

I will try the sanitary idea! Thank you so much in regards to aunusol I've tried using that for a week and a half and it hasn't done anything :( x

Thank you lovely! I'm going to try everything! I have been already and nothing has worked up to yet! Hoping the preparation H works! I've only been using it today so far so hopefully another couple of days and it should work x

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 18/05/2021 17:26

Don't worry about it going back up for now, at the moment it's swollen to hell so it's unlikely it'll go up and stay, but it will shrink and eventually it'll go back even if that's after baby arrives.

If there's a blood clot in there (which sounds like the hard bit) it dissolves by its self within I think about a week from memory, so every day that passes is a day closer to it being sore rather than agony.

Truth is labour can give piles to people who didn't have them before, so keep on at your GP so you can get back to as normal as you can before the extra strain of delivery.

Also, take ibuprofen or paracetamol. I don't know why it never occurred to me to do that, but it didn't! I think you get out of the habit when you've got a bump. Babies are so so worth it but this bit of being pregnant is bloody awful you poor thing x

So sorry to hear this. I did not have them before but did have them after the pushing of labour. Yours sound very bad i'd be considering elective Csection at this point. Pre due date. There is not much you can do for the piles while still pregnant. Have you been careful with diet etc? Talk to a GP for some pain relief. It really is awful isn't it.

Hey there Betty! I'm so fed up of having them the GP literally do nothing as they say they can't do anything :( honestly I think I'm going to have a C-Section at least then we will know when his coming although a lot of people say they can be more painful but can it be more painful than pushing while having really bad hemroids! They are that bad they make me feel sick,shake and go all hot and there is nothing I can do!

My husband has to physically help me every time I want to move! I'm having to pee in the shower as can't sit on the toilet and going for a number two is a no go at the minute as I'm so scared to go to the toilet!

Honestly just want my little boy here now so all these pains can stop x

Pink Spots, so sorry you are suffering again. Have you spoken to your G. P yet? Also what worked best for you last time to ease the discomfort? If you are in that much pain and you don't get any help l would think of going to A&E and begging them for some advice re pain relief.

AnnaMagnani · 07/07/2021 19:23

What are you using as a laxative? Witholding going to the toilet is unfortunately only going to make them worse.

You need your poo to be so soft it comes out with no straining or effort at all - did you get Movicol or Laxido the first time round? If not that is what you need and take enough so the poo is basically falling out by itself.

I've not spoke to my GP yet as I'm so stuck as we are in isolation till Tuesday next week!

I'm in so much pain that every time I move I scream in agony!

There wasn't anything that really eased it I just got on with it for two weeks until it eased I had saltz baths and was using preparation H cream and I had a hemroid pillow to sit on. X

When I go to the toilet I nearly pass out the pain is unbearable and I feel like no one is trying to help me! The GP basically tell me to just get on with it and hopefully after the pregnancy it sorts it's self out! But surly this much pain can't be healthy for me or my baby x

When you are going though, are you having to push? The haemorrhoids will be much much happier if the poo slips out past them with no straining and no effort and they are spending no time sitting next to poo in your rectum.

If you avoid going -which is understandable as it hurts so much- then the poo gets harder, and next time it hurts even worse.

Essentially no cream is better than another, some can actually start irritating the haemorrhoids if you use them too much, it just comes down to which cream you like the best. The key is avoiding any straining at all when you poo - so loads of laxatives.
