Have you contacted Macmillan for support? Do you have family and friends that are supporting you?

HUGS65 · 05/01/2021 16:16

Please look at the thread I’ve linked to. There are some absolutely amazing ladies on there who have fantastic advice to give. Please post on there as they will certainly be able to give you advice and a hand hold as well.

Hi OP, I was diagnosed 3 days before the March lockdown. A huge shock. Fortunately my tumour was contained with no node involvement and I had immediate surgery, radio and then Herceptin. I've got 3 cycles of that and then I'll be finished with treatment in April. I have to say I've tolerated it all very well, continued to exercise and live life as best as you can in a pandemic! I'm also a single mum to 9 year old DS so he keeps me very busy. Macmillan are a brilliant point of support as are Breast Cancer now.

My biggest bit of advice is avoid googling. My surgeon told me that and I haven't done it once. I listen to what they tell me to do and do it. Everybody is different and comparing yourself to others is unhelpful. Breast cancer has a high survival rate these days and so much can be done.

I wish you all the very best Thanks

Hi I was diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer in November.
I had a lumpectomy and am waiting to start radiotherapy also I will need tablets for 5 years as mine is hormone related.
Im still in shock as it was found from my first mammogram which I had put off, then lockdown happened.
Don't google as lots of stories which will not be related to you. Definitely contact Macmillan. Lovely supportive people and you can talk to a nurse if you need to.
I was seen very quickly although the waiting is horrendous. Stay strong.
Wishing you all the best xx

I was diagnosed in July 2018. Please have a look at the link already posted I got some great advice on there.
I know it all seems very raw at the moment, but honestly this is the really hard part, the waiting around before you discuss treatment.
I had 6 rounds of chemo and a mastectomy without reconstruction (my choice).
Life is pretty much back to normal as it can be.

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 07/01/2021 15:54

Hi OP, sorry you're going through this Flowers
I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy followed by 3 sessions of chemo, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and then another 3 sessions of chemo. This was 16 years ago. The treatment was very successful and although I have regular check ups, I have been fine since. Breast cancer is very treatable and I wish you all the best with your treatment plan.

OP, I know several people who have made a full recovery having had node involvement. Please do check out the links posted and talk to those I mentioned in my previous posts. Please don't Google. BC treatment is extremely good these days, it is not an automatic death sentence. Talk to your BC nurse too, that's what they are there for and they're amazing!

Hi sorry if this is the wrong post but I was wondering if anyone could help me, I’ve been diagnosed with health anxiety which now makes me reluctant to contract the Drs incase they fob me off saying it’s anxiety, I don’t know if it’s dimpling or stretch marks will attach pic, the red dot I noticed last night and today I’ve had very sore (like burning sensation) in upper arm underneath

Skyliner001 · 03/06/2021 20:44

The red dot is a cherry andoma, I have loads 😊

The rest looks like stretch marks 😊

Skyliner001 · 03/06/2021 20:44

But go to the Dr if you are worried, that's what they are there for 💚

cduffs · 03/06/2021 20:50

@Skyliner001
Thanks for your reply looking back at the picture I posted now doesn't really show what I'm talking about, I've had stretch marks since I was 13/14 so they don't really bother me, I'll post another angle of what I mean. I just don't want to be wasting time or taking an appointment away from someone who needs it over my health anxiety

Standrewsschool · 03/06/2021 21:09

I had breast cancer in 2012. I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy, no chemo.

Once you’ve got your treatment regime, it’s somehow easier to cope with, as then you have a plan.

Skyliner001 · 03/06/2021 21:50

I see that, and it looks very much like lumpy breast tissue! I would pop to the GP though to put your mind at rest. Don't worry about bothering them it's what they're there for X

hellohellosailor · 03/06/2021 21:55

I was diagnosed two and a half years ago grade 2. Had a mastectomy and reconstruction of my breast, took part of my nipple from the 'good' boob and attached it to the new one within 6 months of surgery. No chemo or any other treatment needed and started work as a child protection social worker 8 weeks later.

justyg1970 · 28/08/2021 00:44

I have had a left mastectomy in Feb this year. Pleomorphic cells. I was left with a massive right boob. My left was taken away and an implant put in. I am struggling with my mental health now. I cannot look at myself in the mirror without feeling devastated, ugly, not normal.i have asked my GP to refer me for colatteral surgery but haven't heard from them since aJune I'm so suicidal, I wish I had never got the surgery

Mintjulia · 01/09/2021 13:44

Hi @justyg1970, how are you getting on? Are things feeling less shocking. I hope you've had some help from the breast unit by now.

justyg1970 · 06/09/2021 19:16

Hello, just wanted to check in and say I have had my surgery. I had it last Wednesday and I'm doing absolutely brilliant. The bad news is I had to get really low to get to this point. I was in a mental health unit for 10 days. I then was seen by A&E three times. I was ready to give up. Then I saw a McMillan Nurse called Bernie and I felt heard. I poured my heart out and she listened. I'm day 6 now and can look at myself and not want to die. Please , please if you are in my situation, call your McMillan Nurse, they are life savers

Natjones29 · 12/09/2021 15:51
