HPV positive? Did you do anything to try and boost immune system

So I suppose it was only a matter of time before I got a positive HPV result as I had cells removed over 10 years ago so I knew I must have it.
Obviously my immune system has let it back in as I've tested negative since they started routinely testing for it
Did anyone try anything to boost their immune system ? Did it work ?

@user1932456542587

I guess herpes is the same and maybe covid too!

HPV is human papilloma virus, not herpes.

Op, before you buy up all the multi-vitamins and supplements in H&B, are you on any prescription medication? Because some of them can disrupt other medications and shouldn't be taken together.

The way it lies dormant in the system and then reactivates is the same 🙄

@Greymouse20 thanks for the link, I've just ordered them.

Yes chemo and radio did it's job and I got the all clear in September 😃 but if I can shift the HPV that will be a worry off my mind

That’s so interesting re. the mushroom supplement. Thank you @Greymouse20 👌

@justanotherneighinparadise you’re welcome!

Also re comparing herpes to HPV - I asked one of the experts on Jo’s Trust, as I know friends who have herpes outbreaks, they said it’s similar but it isn’t as likely to re emerge as herpes is Smile which I found quite reassuring

That’s brilliant, so glad to hear your treatment was successful!

Fingers crossed you get the HPV negative results soon Flowers i actually cried with relief when I got my letter last week! x

That study doesn’t seem great if it was only 10 participants? Maybe it just went away if it’s own accord rather than because of the supplements?

There’s loads of other resources online, I researched more thoroughly when I first started purchasing the supplements. If you google AHCC HPV plenty of other stuff comes up, I just linked a random one.

@Comps83 and @justanotherneighinparadise thank you both!

I hate mushrooms as a food. The taste, smell and texture. I'm hoping no mushroom after taste with these 😂 quick swallow and done!

I think something needs to be done to get the message out there about how HPV can lie dormant.
Makes you wonder how many people get a negative test in a monogamous relationship and then decide to not bother with smears again
Because tbh after my last 2 negative results I didn't think or really know it could come back until I did a lot of reading after getting the letter

Oh but then also , I think it's worrying that they don't test cells anymore if you test hpv negative
I just signed a petition by a girl local to me who ended up with CIN3 which had gone undetected due to testing neg for hpv and was only picked up due to bleeding

Totally agree with this - I’ve seen loads of people use it as a reasoning for not going as it seems pointless.

I'm 30 and HPV positive. It unfortunately must be persistent HPV as I've been with my husband for over a decade so I must have had it for at least that long.

It's interesting what others have said about it flaring up after pregnancy - after my first smear (borderline cell changes and HPV+, but normal colposcopy), I have had annual smears. My second smear said no cell changes, but the letter didn't mention HPV, so I thought I'd cleared it and stopped worrying so much. Then I got pregnant, and my next smear after having my baby was back to HPV+ and low grade dyskaryosis, and I had another colposcopy which confirmed the low grade dyskaryosis. They said no treatment was needed and I'd have another smear in 12 months. I had the result of that next smear last week and it's HPV+ and low grade dyskaryosis still so I'm waiting on another colposcopy.

It seems like my body was showing signs of being able to fight the infection/heal cell changes in my second smear, but then perhaps pregnancy lowered my immunity and the HPV flared up again.

It's so worrying, I feel like I'm just waiting for the cell changes to become something more sinister as my body isn't able to clear the infection. I hate having to just wait and see between annual smears.

Comps83 · 07/10/2020 07:35

Sorry to hear that @Welliboots
I know it's easy for people to say not to worry but I know myself that you will anyway
I was thinking the other day what could have happened to me considering my first ever smear at 23 was abnormal but was followed by a normal smear followed by CIN2!
Imagine if that second had been my first and I didn't have another for 3 years!
