Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 20:04

This started with a subtle vulva burning, it kind of came and went, went to the gp who did a swan which showed nothing. Since then the burning is now at the entrance of my vagina, it feels awful!!! Hurts to walk, to sit.... I don’t know what to do!!! I do t have discharge or anything, could this still be thrush??? I’ve got an appt at the GUM clinic tomorrow morning but I’m on my period so don’t know if they will look?? I’m 38, got a 3 year old, surely I’m young for perimenopause aren’t I?!?

The burning at the entrance of the vagina is sore to touch too. It’s ruining my Christmas I feel so down about it. Any ideas???

Vaginal atrophy - make apt with GP for
Vaginal oestrogen or vaginal DHEA pessarys

QueenofPain · 23/12/2019 20:06

It could be herpes with the pain being as bad as it is, especially with localised soreness, when the GU look at it they’ll be able to say if it’s that.

ButterflyWitch · 23/12/2019 20:07

Have you tried vagisil?

FabulouslyGlamorousReindeer · 23/12/2019 20:09

Have you had a look at it? Is it red and swollen? Does the skin look 'white' at all? It could be Lichen Schlerosus

ButterflyWitch · 23/12/2019 20:09

Also, this recent thread might be useful. to ask what you think could be wrong with me?? (TMI alert) http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3743076-to-ask-what-you-think-could-be-wrong-with-me-TMI-alert

Going to google some of these because I've been suffering something which sounds the same.

MrsPMT · 23/12/2019 20:14

For some temporary relief before you can get to the GP, Apple cider vinegar in the bath can ease the itching.

Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 20:19

Wow you guys are amazing thank you so much!! Yes I’ve had a look, it does look a lil red but then I’m on my period too so not sure if that’s why!

I’ve not tried anything so far other than tonight I’ve bunged on some sudocrem!!

I’ve been meaning to get it seen to but it was so subtle, did the deed yesterday and seriously regretting it. Will be sure to update you guys. Also got my hot water bottle which is providing a bit of comfort.

Would herpes be visible? I don’t really know what I’m looking for

Does vaginal atrophy mean perimenopause??

Do you use Always pads (or similar scented brands)?

troppibambini · 23/12/2019 20:28

Second vagisil. He has lidocaine in (numbing cream) so will give you some relief at least. I was prescribed it for piles when heavily pregnant and I can't tell you how much it helped with the pain.

troppibambini · 23/12/2019 20:28

*it

Northernsoullover · 23/12/2019 20:35

I had this! They were scratching their heads initially. I was worried that it would be herpes, and by the end of it I was hoping it was!
I was diagnosed with vulval dermatitis and was given aqueous cream to use in place of soap. I'm not saying that you have this but the symptoms sound similar. I was in agony. I was also given lidocaine to relieve the pain. That stung dreadfully on application but the relief was blissful when it started working.

Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 20:35

I used to use always pads but just this month I’m using kotex. No difference. It’s still there.

I will pick up some vagisil tomorrow. Really hoping the GUM clinic can provide some insight

It lasted about two weeks but it went and touch wood I haven't had a repeat in 5 years.

QueenofPain · 23/12/2019 20:37

Herpes can be tiny little blisters or sores, not necessarily visible unless you can get your head right down there with a light and some very good eyesight.

Hopefully you’ll get sorted tomorrow!

Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 20:38

Northernsoul - did you have itching too or just burning? Was it at the entrance to vagina or all over?

Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 20:40

Queenofpain- I’ve tried to have a good look down there but don’t think I can see blisters but let’s see what they say tomorrow, they’ve already told me it’s a male that’s on tomorrow Blush I know I shouldn’t care I just want my vagina back to normal 😩 I just hope he does have a look and doesn’t make me wait until my period is over

Thrush?
I’m prone to thrush just before my period, starts day or 2 before - rarely have discharge with it so it took ages to get a diagnosis.

I use multi-gyn actigel - it’s been a lifesaver for me. It’s actually marketed for bacterial vaginitis but works by keeping vaginal PH at a healthy level so that the Candida, BV or other nasties cannot grow.
When active I use it daily, then every other day, then twice a week, then once a week and now only when I start to feel a bit dry, tender or sensitive down there. I also take an anti histamine (I think the soreness is my body over reacting to the thrush rather than the thrush)

I also find shallow bathing in sodium bicarbonate or salt and lavender oil soothing.

Or As you say your on your period, you could have an allergic reaction to the pads/liners or tampons. I find certain brands now make me quite sore, I’m toying with the idea of a cup as I find it hard to source the brands that I seem ok with.

Best to wait till you’re been seen By Dr however as over the counter products might irritate the delicate area even more

Deer1981 · 23/12/2019 21:13

Thanks watermelon, it’s interesting to see that thrush can be present without the classic symptoms. I’m glad you found some relief fingers crossed I will too!

I've had this a long with itching exactly were you said. GP prescribed estriol cream. Apparently the depo causes dryness sometimes. I'm only just 27 so not going through the menopause.

Skidzer · 23/12/2019 21:33

Sounds like thrush. Canestan.

Whitegrenache · 24/12/2019 11:25

How did you get on? It could be a number of things but if it is recurring it may well be atrophy and yes will mean peri menopause.

GUM clinic will sort you out as they are experts in that area Smile

Deer1981 · 24/12/2019 12:37

Hi guys so the doctor had a good look and he said there’s nothing obvious! He asked if I use condoms to which I said no, so that’s latex allergy out, asked if I’ve had any other sexual partners to which I said nope not in the last 7 years. Asked if there’s itching but it’s predominantly burning.

He has given me a hydrocortisone cream to try, and said it could be lack of moisture but again there’s nothing obvious. I will try vagisil as so many here have recommended it and see how that goes

Was it when your period started? I can't use disposable pads now too many chemicals in them. I switched to reusables and only regret not doing it sooner
