Would you make an emergency GP appointment for this?

Warning: tmi.

So since taking a morning after pill last Monday I have been having the period from hell.

Since Wednesday morning though it has really become something else. I am bleeding through sanitary pads at the rate of about once an hour or everytime I get up. What seems to happen is that I lose a big, gelatinous clot immediately followed by such a big rush of fresh blood that even my big reusable postpartum pads can't cope with them.

I've just had to change my pad again and it's showing no sign of stopping, which means it's going into its third day. I am starting to feel like absolute shit and I am no stranger to heavy periods.

I booked the first available GP appointment, which is the 8th of October. Would it be the right thing to request an emergency appointment tomorrow morning? I just want it to stop Confused .

In the meanwhile does anyone have any tips?

Er, yes, you need an emergency appointment

GailTheFish · 27/09/2019 03:12

With that rate of blood loss, I would consider phoning 111 for advice now or visit A&E/a walk in centre tonight OP.

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/09/2019 03:17

Oh wow, thank you.

Not quite what I expecting, was expecting to be told not to waste NHS time.

Not sure if going to A+E is the right thing for me now or whether I would be better off waiting til the morning when more regular options open.

If you're filling a pad an hour you need to get advice now. 111 will likely tell you to go straight to A&E. Do you have an urgent care centre within your local area?

octoberfarm · 27/09/2019 03:20

That does sound like an alarming rate of blood loss. If it were me, I'd go to A&E - that's a heap of blood over three days. Better safe than sorry, truly. Feel better soon Thanks

cakeandchampagne · 27/09/2019 03:21

Don’t wait- go now.

Belle89 · 27/09/2019 03:21

If your feeling ok ish, wait till the morning but do get seen asap in the morning. Do you have amyone with you? Let them know if you haven't already.
If you get dizzy call 111 and they'll advise.
I took the MAP 6 weeks ago and regretted it. Things did settle but it wasn't pleasant. Hope it stops for you soon.

Mybobowler · 27/09/2019 03:21

Yikes, I'd probably be calling 111 now if I were you. But yes, an urgent GP appointment is definitely justified!

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/09/2019 03:26

My partner is with me.

The reason I am hesitant about A+E is that it's 40 minutes drive away, not a good distance to be driving on my own. I could ask my partner to take me but that would mean taking toddler DD too. Plus A+E gets overrun by drunks where I live and past experience tells me waiting times of over 4 hours are to be expected even at night.

That’s sounds like too much blood loss. Call 111 as some areas they give you an out of hours gp appointment.

kristallen · 27/09/2019 04:44

If you've had that much blood loss for three days no wonder you're feeling bad. Call 111. You've nothing to lose from calling them and you definitely won't be wasting their time.

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/09/2019 09:08

Tried getting an emergency appointment with my doctor.

Couldn't get through to the surgery, called 111, they told me I need to see a doctor. Finally got through and they have run out of appointments Confused. Waiting for a callback from the doctor now.

catlady3 · 27/09/2019 10:09

Did you tell them that you are bleeding? A&E where I live will triage you right to the front of the queue if you are.

Comefromaway · 27/09/2019 10:17

I wouldn't but then again at my doctors an emergency appointment is they fit you in within two hours. If I rang this morning they would have offered me either this afternoon or Monday morning.

In your circumstance, absolutely I would get an emergency appointment.

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/09/2019 10:54

I've still not had a callback.

The good news is that whilst I am still bleeding heavily and passing big clots, it is not quite so violent as the previous two days. I actually witnessed it in the shower yesterday, a big clot followed by a lot of blood. No wonder the pads couldn't cope Confused.

Just feeling really worn out and a bit dizzy.

I am actually worried that I'm anaemic. I am feeling quite faint and short of breath.

StrongTea · 27/09/2019 11:03

Honestly go to a and e better now than at a weekend when they will be more short staffed.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 27/09/2019 11:07

If you're faint and short of breath please go to A&E.

QueenofPain · 27/09/2019 11:10

Yes, A&E seems a good idea. FWIW I work in A&E.

Spinmynipplenuts · 27/09/2019 11:14

You need to go to a&e with those symptoms.

Mummoomoocow · 27/09/2019 11:18

Don’t drive ffs! If you can’t get to a&e without then call 111 again, new symptoms, faint and breathless

DeathMetalMum · 27/09/2019 11:19

You need to go to a&e. If it's 40 minutes away I'd be leaving as soon as possible.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/09/2019 11:21

Hope you can get to a&e; it does sound like you could be anaemic and i agree you’re losing an awful lot of blood!

tumpymummy · 27/09/2019 11:21

After several days of heavy bleeding no wonder you are feeling faint. Please go to A&E. Get someone to drive you there, dont drive yourself.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/09/2019 11:22

Can someone have toddler while partner takes you there?
