Would you make an emergency GP appointment for this?

Warning: tmi.

So since taking a morning after pill last Monday I have been having the period from hell.

Since Wednesday morning though it has really become something else. I am bleeding through sanitary pads at the rate of about once an hour or everytime I get up. What seems to happen is that I lose a big, gelatinous clot immediately followed by such a big rush of fresh blood that even my big reusable postpartum pads can't cope with them.

I've just had to change my pad again and it's showing no sign of stopping, which means it's going into its third day. I am starting to feel like absolute shit and I am no stranger to heavy periods.

I booked the first available GP appointment, which is the 8th of October. Would it be the right thing to request an emergency appointment tomorrow morning? I just want it to stop Confused .

In the meanwhile does anyone have any tips?

I'm a nurse, if I saw you or took a phone call from you, I would want you to be seen further.
I think this is OK for A&E .
It sounds wretched. You need bloods and assessment today!

Yes I'd agree with A & E for this one, you do urgently need some medical attention. Flowers

Update: Just went to see the GP. He didn't seem overly worried and prescribed me tranexamic (sp?) acid to take off the bleed and referred me for a blood test. Of course they had just stopped taking bloods at the surgery so now I need to go to the hospital 40 minutes away anyway. He said it's not a priority and I can go sometime next week.

I thought it was going a lot better, but the walking around and queuing in the pharmacy seems to have made it worse again. I used two pads for an hour and managed to almost bleed through the second one Confused

I am now on sofarest as prescribed by my husband and he's cooking me a lovely steak now, just in case I am anaemic Wink.

I will take the medication now and play it by ear whether I can pluck up enough courage to have my bloods taken this afternoon.

Thanks everyone!

You need to go to A&E, and someone needs to take you. Don't drive yourself!

Bouledeneige · 27/09/2019 12:20

I'm glad you saw the doctor. I had similar when I was peri-menopausal in my early 40s and was prescribed tranxemic acid (or whatever it's called). It did help. My periods became more and more erratic after that. Any chance that's what's happening with you?

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/09/2019 12:29

I would hope not! I'm only 29.

I have noticed my periods getting heavier recently, with some flooding, that is why I made an appointment on the 8th of October. I think this onslaught is due to the MAP I took Monday last week.

Update: the tranexamic acid is working wonders. It's now back to a normal flow for me.

I should have gone in yesterday, makes me wonder why I choose to suffer!

On a serious note. I bought loads of loo roll in preparation for Brexit. I am now having to reassess my stash as I have used so much!!

I’m glad you’re doing better! Smile

That's great that the doctor was able to see you and prescribe something to help the blood flow. Make sure you still get that blood test done though sometime.

An update if anyone is still interested...

I got a callback from the GP, they have prescribed iron tablets because I am anaemic. My ferritin is 6!

I need to go back for a blood test in two months.

Of course we are still interested! Thanks for the update.
I’m glad you are doing better & have ongoing contact with the doctor. Flowers

Glad you’re ok, if you soak pads like that again please go to a&e.
