6cm ovarian cyst

Bollocks.

Long story short, I had to have scans for other things about 12 weeks ago and the nurse mentioned that I had "a few cysts" on my ovaries and I should get them checked again in 3 months. So far, I wasn't even remotely alarmed, she didn't make it sound like a big deal.

I've just started a new job and DP has just moved to a different city 5 hours away to return to studying etc so I've been running around like a headless chicken and totally forgot to go to my appointment which should have been on Monday.

I've just had a letter today telling me I need to get my SIX CENTIMETRE cyst scanned again to see if it has changed size etc.

Should I be worried? My best friend had a 4.5cn cyst just a couple of months ago and she had to have surgery to have it removed - will I likely need surgery as well?

Any other advice or experiences? The size of it has scared me a little bit.

In had a cyst of that size and was asked if I wanted it removed or not which I thought was bizarre. It was causing me a lot of pain and discomfort so I opted to have it out.

The risk of not removing them is that they get so heavy that they pull down the ovary and cause it to twist on itself, or rupture. Both of which can have serious consequences.

They’ll scan you again to see if it’s growing (which would warrant removing it) or shrinking. Pretty sure that once they get to 5cm there’s not much chance of them disappearing.

I’d get it removed if you’re given the option. It’ll feel like a ticking time bomb inside you otherwise!!

I had a 5cm X 7cm dermoid cyst that led to ovarian torsion.
This was the worst pain I've ever experienced. Worse than back labour with no pain relief. Given the choice, surgery is the right thing to do I'd say.

Mine was removed as an emergency - which meant 3 days without food due to repeated cancellations - so best done planned

It was a keyhole op with minimal scaring. Nothing to be scared of (unlike ovarian torsion...I'm very scared of that)

Agree with PP. mine was 10cm and somehow reversed itself -consultant said I was a medical marvel and labour was a breeze with only gas and air in comparison.

It was beyond excruciating. DH had to call 999 and one of the ambulance crew came to check on me on the ward later because she was so worried about me.

I was 11 weeks pregnant. Thankfully dd is now a cheeky 6 year old.

Oh dear. I have my rescan in a week so I'll know more then.

What is the op/recovery like?? I want to minimise time off work as I'm still in my probationary period and also I live alone through the week so nobody to walk the dogs etc Confused

The torsion thing sounds terrifying though so if I'm given the option maybe the op is the best way to go.

There’s a thread in general health at the mo about laparoscopic cyst removal. Here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/3690548-Laparoscopy-reassure-me-please

I saw GP for menstrual problems and she ordered a scan and they found an 8cm cyst. I had no idea.

They watched it for a few months and I decided to have it removed due to the risk or torsion 😳

That was back in March.

Due to it's size they removed my ovary and fallopian tube as well.

It was keyhole surgery so the recovery time was quicker. But it took 2-3 wks before I felt better and I still watch when lifting.

Get it checked out Thanks

orange that thread is helpful, thank you. Although I kind of thought I could go back to work after a couple of days. If I do need an op it will require some logistics I think!

Stupid ovaries and stupid cysts Angry

You might be ok after a week if you’re lucky but that depends on your job I suppose.

It’ll be fine don’t worry Flowers
