Is itching down there due to pubic hair?

I take a shower almost everyday. Some days, when I am really tired I skip a day.
So, I don't think it is hygiene problems.
I don't wax my bikini. I have shaved down there maybe 3 times.
So, is it because of pubic hair- the itching?
Should I be worried? Should I see my GP?

Where is it itchy exactly? Vaginal entrance, pubis, labia?

QueenoftheNights · 11/10/2018 16:04

Where is the itch? Is it your vulva, your vaginal entrance?
It could be thrush perhaps.
Do you have a discharge that is smelly or coloured?

rareflowergirl · 11/10/2018 20:47

No discharge..itching everywhere...pubis, bikini, vaginal entrance..

Have you recently changed shower gel or soap? Or have you started wearing a different style of underwear or trousers?

AuntieStella · 11/10/2018 20:55

Do you use sanitary towels, and if so have they recently added a freshness system (or some other similar euphemism)?

reallyanotherone · 11/10/2018 20:56

No, pubic hair shouldn’t itch.

If you haven’t shaved or trimmed recently- regrowth/shorter hair will itch, it’s time for a trip to the Gp.

Could be scabies..

adoggymama · 11/10/2018 20:58

I shave each week and find the itching is so much less when I'm bare down there (which I prefer anyway). But I do quite often get really itchy at night and wake myself up with itSad

I wish I had a solution but other than shaving and making sure I'm not to hot down there I don't know much!

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 11/10/2018 21:02

Scabies?!
Thrush per chance?

Time40 · 11/10/2018 21:05

No, it's not because of pubic hair. Pubic hair isn't itchy. Ever.

KateGrey · 11/10/2018 21:08

I’ve found the same recently. But I think it’s down to recently trimmed hair. It drives me nuts.

rareflowergirl · 11/10/2018 21:16

I keep changing shower gels all the time....I rarely use the same shower gel once that bottle is finished..itching is more at night...I don't know whether to visit GP first or start waxing and wait for a month or so and then go and see GP if itching continues..? What do you think?

I haven't had periods in over 4 months..

I had this. It was unbearable. I think it was due to underwear or sanitary towels. Wearing looser underwear and only sensitive towels sorted it but it took a while.

mimibunz · 11/10/2018 21:19

Sweat? Or thrush? Menopause?

CoperCabana · 11/10/2018 21:20

Aaah ok - cross thread. Not towels then. Underwear? New washing powder?

Elzbells · 11/10/2018 21:36

Treat yourself for worms just in case. They migrate to the labia and cause intense itching at night.

I speak from experience unfortunately.

AfterSchoolWorry · 11/10/2018 21:37

Itching more at night? Worms?

calderdalechange · 11/10/2018 21:42

Why haven't you had a period in 4 months?

bonzo77 · 11/10/2018 21:43

Could be a million things. First bet is the shower gel. It’s so irritating. Just use plain water. Or possibly plain white Unscented soap. Dry gently, using a hairdryer on cool rather than rubbing.

Cotton pants, no disposable panty liner or pad. Go commando under skirts or baggy trousers if you can. Wear tights etc as little as possible.

See GP to rule out thrush, bacterial vaginosis, lichen sclerosus and demographia.

I had this. It was dermographia. Easily treated with the local measures above, not scratching and using a very heavy duty steroid cream daily for a week then just occasionally since.

starfishmummy · 11/10/2018 21:49

Crabs?

QueenoftheNights · 12/10/2018 10:07

Are you in peri menopause- is that why you have had a 4 month gap in your periods? How old are you? Do you have any other symptoms other than this itching? Does your skin look red?

Have you been at risk of catching an STI like crabs ?

Any loss of periods for this time if you are under 45 should be investigated by your GP.

If it's peri menopause, itching of the skin anywhere can be a sign- it's called formication but tends to be on the arms and everywhere.

reallyanotherone · 12/10/2018 10:35

Don’t start waxing. Highly probable it will make it worse. Gp first.

Waxing is relatively recent. And of all the threads on here justifying the removal of pubic hair, not once has itchyness been given as a reason. Pubic hair doesn’t itch if left alone

rareflowergirl · 13/10/2018 00:44

I am almost 30...so not menopause....
God if it is scabies or worms, will the GP tell me not to go out for a few weeks so that it won't spread? Is it like chicken pox? Will it spread?

QueenoftheNights · 13/10/2018 08:22

Goodness, you won't be quarantined for worms!

Have you had sex with anyone new? Or a partner who's been with anyone else? It could be crabs or scabies if you have been anywhere to catch them.

Mamamanatee · 13/10/2018 08:25

Pubic hair doesn't itch! Confused
