Hurrah and Hallelujah. My uterus has been given an eviction notice!

30 years of being a complete bitch. Let me down twice (miscarriage and ectopic). Did what it should do twice (2 grown up DDs). Never officially diagnosed with anything but suggestions have been PCOS and endometriosis. 30 solid years of hideous periods. 30 years of being fobbed off by assorted GPs who told me it was normal to faint, vomit, incapacitate and take over my life for one out of every three or four weeks.
It’s got to the point where my cycles are just 18-20 days long, I bleed huge amounts for 5 days (emptying cup every 2 hours), overflowing, clots. Light bleeding on and off for a further 4 days. Bleeding on and off randomly mid-cycle. Puking and dizzy. Period diarrhoea, excruciating, labour style pain. Another 3 days of pain while i ovulate plus bleeding then too.
Tried everything. Mirena - I bled for 8 months then it fell out. Painfully. Pill - unhinged. Drugs - I’m allergic to the good ones and the others don’t work so well. Herbs, flowers, tea, homeopathy, diet - all bollox.

Finally saw a Dr who actually listened and agreed to whip the bugger out. Not sure how yet as apparently it's ‘bulky’ (like the rest of me) so need a scan to see how big it is. Also waiting on smear results and endometrial biopsy (which hurt like a bastard and is still hurting 4 days later).

Thanks. It’s a shocker and i just called in sick to work which makes me feel completely pathetic but I’m having trouble standing upright. Will see I’d the gp can do anything to stop it as i really feel shocking

FannyBurney · 17/11/2018 14:26

I'm now having a shocker too- can't wait to be done with it all.

Beanfield · 17/11/2018 19:39

Massive wobble.

Crap week. Poured out for 5 days and ended up feeling really crap so had to phone in sick to work for 2 days. Luckily I have extremely understanding team leader and manager who were fabulous and lovely.

The gp has prescribed me something hormoney to make it stop, which it has. But I’m feeling very wibbly. No idea if it’s anaemia wibbly or weird hormone wibbly.
Exhausted, cold, emotional.

Anyway. I have pre-op next week. And nobody to talk to. So I’ll wibble here.

ScreamingValenta · 17/11/2018 19:48

I hope you feel calmer soon Flowers. The pre-op for my hysterectomy was very long and boring, but the nurse was reassuring when I wibbled in her direction - she'd done so many of them and saw it as very routine.

Soon, flooding and pain will be a thing of the past for you.

Beanfield · 17/11/2018 19:51

I bought new sheets today. Grin

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 17/11/2018 19:54

You'll be able to have plain bedding in light colours, and no more having to soak nightclothes in cold water!

Mildpanic · 17/11/2018 20:10

Anyone runners who have had it done? Bit worried about down time, any advice?

Beanfield · 17/11/2018 20:11

White pants!!!!!!

H helpfully keeps discussing how I am ‘soiling the bed’. Git.

I’m weirdly wobbly this evening. Not in a wanting to keeep it or anything. I cannot wait to see the back of the fucker. I want it over and done with. But definitely a bit anxious and emotional.

Good luck with your womb eviction Op, and everyone else waiting for theirs.

I had a hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) last year February, and it has been the best thing. I started this thread just after I had it done, and it was such great support.

My top tips:
Buy oversized nighties for the first few days
Buy leggings in a size bigger, your stomach will be swollen/bloated/sore for at least 4 weeks
Take any help offered
Stick to the sheet the hospital will give you for what you can do when
Laxatives, lots of laxatives, for the first week or so
Box sets and books are your friends

Beanfield · 21/11/2018 17:59

Pre-op yesterday. Had bloods, swans and a million questions.
I’m on countdown.
Eeeeeeek!

OP posts:
Beanfield · 21/11/2018 17:59

Swabs not swans. That would have been weird.

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 21/11/2018 18:02

Swans Grin.

Are you feeling less wobbly now you have got the pre-op over with?

bobstersmum · 21/11/2018 18:11

Best of luck op!

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:16

Not got time to read yet. Blatantly bookmarking as my bitch of a uterus is on the waiting list for an eviction! Will read later Grin

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:31

Had a quick nosey. A few posts of people with adenomyosis. This is finally what they have diagnosed me with. Along side post ablation sterilisation syndrome. Basically long story short 3 years of bleeding and flooding almost every day. Tried every hormonal intervention. Including the coil (dont even get me started on that!!) They refused a hysterectomy and offered sterlisation and ablation nearly a year ago. Haven't bled since but have been in so much pain I've beem prescribed morphine!! Went last week to see gynae and basically refused to leave until they agreed to take it all out. Leaving ovaries. Must have been looking fairly manic as the poor gynae dr said "i should examin you to see if your a good candidate for vaginal, however we will just leave that and assume you are " 😂
On the waiting list. Just waiting to hear now. Very exciteed!!

FannyBurney · 21/11/2018 19:57

Good luck Bean!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 21/11/2018 21:23

Best of luck Bean!

Beanfield · 21/11/2018 22:06

I’m veering wildly between wibbling and quite excited.

I’ve been taking medroxyprogesterone in a last ditch attempt to stop to pouring blood. It has stopped but i’m beyond unhinged.
H suggested I might like to sit down with a cup of tea. So I had to kill him and put him under the patio.

Consuela. It’s a bit of a Phew! Feeling isn’t it. Well done.

Conseulabananahammock · 22/11/2018 06:22

Bean you sound like your having a nightmare. I remember all the hormonal interventions they tried with me turned me into a raving lunatic. Praying for my pre op soon. Get this evil womb out!

MeganChips · 23/11/2018 12:51

When is your op Beanfield? I’m assuming it’s soon so good luck! I can’t wait to hear how fabulous you’re feeling with no hormones and no bastard uterus.

I am rough as shit today, I am self medicating with ferrous fumerate over the counter. I haven’t had a blood test but I only feel this way when anaemic so I’m pretty sure I am again. I can’t breathe properly and I’m bollocksed even climbing 2 flights of stairs. I have to do a lot of public speaking in my job and can’t do it with blue lips!

I am on my third period in as many weeks. Big black clots this time.

Roll on January. It will be a start at least.

mydogisthebest · 23/11/2018 13:20

I had an abdominal hysterectomy when I was 34 (am 64 now) because I had a fibroid which was so large it made me look about 6 months pregnant. They left 1 ovary.

My Consultant said his view was that most doctors recommend far too much rest and inactivity for women after a hysterectomy and he thought that was why it often took so long for them to recover. It obviously does depend on age as well.

So I went in on a Friday morning, had the op in the afternoon. Next morning I had a shower, walked a little down the hospital corridor and was allowed home.

I didn't need any painkillers although I know I have a very high pain threshold (had an ectopic which ruptured when I was 30 and never took any painkillers, which the nurses and doctors could not believe).

My DH took a week off and then I was on my own. Consultant said to be as active as possible and not sit around. Told me to walk every day and do things like dusting. He said not to hoover or strip the bed but I could lift a kettle as long as it was not full.

I walked every day, gradually increasing the distance. Two weeks later me and DH went to the British Grand Prix and camped there for 4 days.

I went back to work after 5 weeks (office job) but could have gone back earlier really.

Best thing ever and never had any problems. Sailed through the menopause with literally no symptoms. I have put on weight but not sure if that is due to the hysterectomy. Not really wrinkled though (most people think I am a good 10 years younger than I am)

ScreamingValenta · 23/11/2018 16:41

mydogisthebest It's good to hear your positive experience over the longer term!

Beanfield · 23/11/2018 18:19

Thanks mydog. It is v helpful to hear positive stories.

Anxiety dreams.

Last night I was going in and didn’t know how to tell anyone I’d already done it myself.
