Hi everyone.

I have spontaneously started lactating and have no idea why. I don't think I'm pregnant as I've had periods, but I'm getting a bit freaked out and my GP can't see me for weeks! Thanks

Have you ever been pregnant?

3luckystars · 28/06/2018 01:30

You need to get another gp, that’s awful. Can you see someone else sooner?
None of us can tell you what is going on, it could be 10 different things!
Something wrong with you pituitary gland
Something hormonal
Pregnancy

You will have to see s doctor and I hope it’s nothing serious. Best wishes to you x

Tinkofhousepan · 28/06/2018 01:32

Thank you. I have miscarried a few years ago. I am on the phone to 111 now. Just properly freaking out

Could be a side effect of a med you are on?

Tinkofhousepan · 28/06/2018 01:38

I'm not currently on any medication Sad 111 just said get an apt with my gp ASAP.

I’d do a test just to rule out pregnancy- I started leaking at 18 weeks, and can still squeeze a few drops out despite Baby now being 8 months and never breastfed.

Hope you get speaking to someone who can set your mind at ease.

RoseByAnyOther2 · 28/06/2018 01:44

Dr Google says even stress can cause it. Could be thyroid too.

Battleax · 28/06/2018 01:55

Get assertive with the receptionist about needing at least a telephone appointment urgently?

Battleax · 28/06/2018 01:56

Alternatively, do you have a walk in clinic locally?

Battleax · 28/06/2018 01:58

(Not because I think it’s likely to be caused by something dangerous, BTW, but because I don’t think you should have to wait and worry.)

Tinkofhousepan · 28/06/2018 16:47

Thanks guys. I went to my doctors the second they opened at 8.00am. They refused to see me. The advice they gave me is that they are having a first come first serve morning tomorrow so I should just show up at 8 and wait to be seen.

Good luck. You need a new GP practice.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 28/06/2018 16:50

Your GP must have emergency appointments? Turn up tomorrow, good luck!
I do think in the mean time I would take a test just to be on the safe side

Tinkofhousepan · 28/06/2018 23:38

Could it have something to do with allergies?

OP posts:
3luckystars · 29/06/2018 11:08

I really doubt it.

I hope you get seen today.

Aridane · 29/06/2018 11:13

I hope you have been seen this morning

Tinkofhousepan · 29/06/2018 11:20

I was seen by the Dr this morning, have had swabs taken but the Dr thinks I might be pregnant. I have the added bonus of acute sinusitis bought on by hayfever to deal with now too! Just bought tests and am on my way home to see what's what. Thanks for all your responses!

HollowTalk · 29/06/2018 11:23

Couldn't the doctor have done a test?

reddressblueshoes · 29/06/2018 11:25

This is how a friend found out she was pregnant at nearly twenty weeks. I understand it's the most likely explanation, so I hope if you are it's not too much of a shock.

Singadream · 29/06/2018 11:26

Hope you get the outcome you want. (Marking place!)

Jaxtellerswife · 29/06/2018 11:26

Well, I've always had sinus trouble,

When pregnant...
but seriously, I hope alls ok

FlybirdFly · 29/06/2018 11:27

Are you sure it’s milk and not a discharge? Is it both nipples or just one?

impostersyndrome · 29/06/2018 11:28

Has the doctor checked your prolactin levels? I had a similar scare years ago and it turned out to be a benign growth on the pituitary gland, which produces the hormone, prolactin, that governs the production of milk. Completely treatable, once they get the pills right (I needed an endocrinologist to do this).

Battleax · 29/06/2018 11:31

Don’t they have pregnancy tests in the surgery? How annoying.

SparklyMagpie · 29/06/2018 11:33

Can't believe your doctor didn't do any tests

If you are pregnant, would it be an issue?
