Adrian Mole made me cry,,,,

I am a lifelong fan of the Adrian Mole books. I first read the Secret Diary when I was 12. The literary Adrian is 2 years older than me.

Anyway, over the last week or so, I have been re-reading "Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction". It is a fabulous political satire of the mid 2000s - but the issues - credit and Iraq are still current. I didn't notice that the first time I read it. But the bits that made me cry - some of the diary entries are letters from his teenage soldier son in Basra. So bittersweet. Maybe it is because I wasn't a mum last time I read it. Sue Townsend is a genius.

I'm almost the same age as AM so grew up reading him and the latest one the prostrate years made me want to cry.

I love the bit in the first one I think. When he goes camping and the only thing they can eat is cheese as everything else trashed and they haven't got a can opener.
