Would like to get MIL some books, she likes Maeve Binchy. As I've not read any myself, I'm not sure who else's writing MIL might enjoy. Any suggestions? I was wondering about Catherine Cookson? Or something with an Irish slant?

I'd go for Penny Vincenzi and Cathy Kelly out of the ones mentioned so far. My MIL enjoys them anyway.

She also likes Lesley Pearce if you wanted something lighter, more escapist and predictable.

I love Maeve Binchy! Why do i feel embarrassed to admit that on here? Also Penny Vicenzi, but some are better than others. I'm more a reader of thrillers and biographies but both can tell a good story.

Has she read the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? Lovely story and similar to MB.

My mum likes Maeve Binchy and Erica James, both of whom are usually considerate enough to bring out new hardbacks just before Christmas.
