Does anyone remember these books from childhood?

They were like the Famous Five style. The main character was fat (!), his mum played bridge and he always seemed to see somthing that needed investigating whilst selling the parish magazine. Then a gang of them would sort things out. I think he had a shed and was an expert at disguise.

I can't remember much more, but for some reason I keep thinking about them.

I know, I know, must go out more....

I dreamt of Enid Blyton being just rationed, she was banned completely by my mother . Weirdly, the same mother actually encouraged me to read Chalet School books.

Why did your mum ban her books, Tamum?

I wanted to be Bill, Zaphod. Oh, wish I had my MT here instead of at M & D's!

I always fancied myself as Darrell, personally

Inferior writing, apparently zaphod! No-one who write that many books could possibly be any good. I was actually allowed to get a few from the library when I was older....

I remember a horse being walked round all night, not sure if St Clares or Mallory Towers, but one of them , with the kid who's family they visited for a picnic!!
