What do mners think? I've seen this title come up a lot on the AF threads and I know that the film is coming out soon so is this worth reading at all or over hyped trash?

I'll probably end up reading it anyway out of curiosity.

i liked it a lot, it's easy to read and it isn't one of those life wasting books (when you think God I won't get those hours back again!!)
Anyway on a similar note, I randomly saw the film yesterday, was slightly worried it would be shit...and... i loved it! quite pleased with that actually cos it's never really like you read a book and then the film is any good...?
But I am hormonal and pg and therefore not a very good critic atm...sorry! had a good cry in it too which is always nice and cathartic!!!
But yes read it - what have you got to lose?

Sidge · 16/08/2009 22:06

Have started it twice and never read it.

Tedious drivel IMO.

Theinvisibleone · 16/08/2009 22:07

Loved the book, really loved it, looking forward to the film.

expatinscotland · 16/08/2009 22:17

the film. i'd rather shove bamboo sticks under my nails or take up smoking again.

yappybluedog · 17/08/2009 18:51

loved it, but the film looks rubbish

LoveTheCarbs · 18/08/2009 09:38

Loved it. My sister had it with her when we went on holiday together. I thought it would be rubbish! But then I do have a sneaky love of the rom-com..

Not interested in the film. I don't really like film adaptations of books. The books are always better and give your imagination free rein.

Ponders · 18/08/2009 09:40

tosh

OrmIrian · 18/08/2009 09:41

Crap Not to my taste.

tinymam · 18/08/2009 09:46

5 out of 5

Beautifully written, thought-provoking and heart-wrenching.

Loved it

TheChewyToffeeMum · 18/08/2009 19:41

Loved it.

Thought it would be rubbish but was desperate to read something. Started slowly but really hooked me in. Had me blubbing several times - always a sign of a good book for me.

codinbatterindailymail · 18/08/2009 19:49

Hurled it across the room before the end of Chapter 1.

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/08/2009 19:53

Had to read it twice to confirm that it was a complete pile manipulative, tear-jerking tosh ... but then I don't go for the big romantic gestures and everlasting love malarky...

CheeryCherry · 18/08/2009 19:53

Irritated me, didn't warm to the characters, attempted to finish it twice, not worth it.

racmac · 18/08/2009 20:10

Couldnt get very far - rubbish

Went to see the film with 2 friends that loved the book - they thought the film brilliant i thought it ok - wouldnt rave about it though

Nighbynight · 18/08/2009 22:40

ha ha
I love these threads where half the people think its deep and meaningful and beautiful, and the other half threw it across the room/used it as bog paper at the end of chapter 1.

stealthsquiggle · 18/08/2009 22:44

OK - I am intruiged now - I bought it the other day because it was ludicrously cheap in Sainsbury's but I haven't started it yet.

Am I in the mood for "manipulative, tear-jerking tosh" I wonder? Maybe not tonight, but soon...

Lizzzombie · 19/08/2009 06:55

I saw the film last night, and was sobbing from the first 5 minutes in. Absolutely loved it, but then I love a good cry at a film. Have to say my friend and I were not the only ones crying either, it echoed round the whole cinema!
Eric Bana was a little bit wooden, but that was my only problem with the film. I thoroughly recommend it.

Celery · 19/08/2009 07:27

I read the first two thirds, thinking it's got to get better, otherwise why would everybody be raving about it so much. Couldn't finish it. Bleh.

OrmIrian · 19/08/2009 08:10

I'm not big on Mills and Boon and let's fact it, that is what TTW is (with extra soft sci-fi thrown in). But even worse was that I didn't identify with any of the cardboard cutouts characters and really wanted them to do something useful like drop dead on page 10.

I love real sci-fi. I love good writing. This was neither.

notyummy · 19/08/2009 08:17

I enjoyed it, in the same way that I enjoy other easy non-threatening reads when I can't be bothered challenging myself.

DH LOVED it!

CybilLiberty · 19/08/2009 08:23

I loved it but found the time travelling bit a little confusing. When I stopped trying to explain it and just enjoyed it it was great

foofi · 19/08/2009 08:30

Notyummy - my dh loved it too - from the sciency time-travel POV, not the romcom one.

Haven't read it myself - will probably just watch the film now.

notyummy · 19/08/2009 08:37

errr...my DH liked the romcom angle!

He is a complete girly sucker for romance. (One of his favourite films is Titanic.....)He also loves a 'good' musical - Phantom of the Opera anyone?

Oh, and he's in the military.

Perhaps he thinks he's proven his manliness by joining the military so can can embrace his pink side with pride...

(Needless to say I am aghast at some of the stuff he likes, and he thinks I am a stony hearted cow )

troutpout · 19/08/2009 15:43

loved the book...but the film looks a bit errm crap

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 19/08/2009 15:44

whats it about?
And why oh why is Traveler spelt with one l?
