Kinflicks
Lace
Flowers in the attic

I still love Lace : 'Which one of you bitches is my mother?'

CybilLiberty · 20/07/2009 16:10

I'm soooo getting Lace to read on my gals only holiday.

tillyfernackerpants · 20/07/2009 16:43

Pretty similar for me - Lace, Forever (Judy Blume)

I think Forever was taken out of the school library when they twigged what it was about

MaggieVirgo · 20/07/2009 16:44

Judy bLume. Forever, summer sisters, there was another one. I can't remember its title.

FAQinglovely · 20/07/2009 16:45

there was one we did for Scottish Higher English which I seem to recall was rather raunchy in places. I can't however for the life of me remember what it was called

faeriemummy · 20/07/2009 16:51

Jilly Cooper and Danielle Steel hehe!! Basically raiding my mums bookshelves :O

BalloonSlayer · 20/07/2009 18:01

We used to read James Herbert's horror books at school, and there was always a sex scene in every one.

Did anyone ever read a book called Tattoo, by (I think) Earl Thomas? It was about a young boy who joins the navy (army?) in the late fifties and shags woman after woman after woman. That was basically the plot. We all read it (our Mum included), it was "how are you getting on with the dirty book?" >

BalloonSlayer · 20/07/2009 18:11

It's actually Tattoo by Earl Thompson if anyone's interested.

GetOrfMoiCockroachCluster · 21/07/2009 08:57

Ditto Lace, Riders and Rivals by Jilly C and (expecially) Lovers and Gamblers by jackie Collins. I was obsessed with that book, looking back it was a weird book, set in the late 70s where the hero was definitely based on Tom Jones. The references to quaaludes definitely went over my head (understood the sex scenes though!). Jesus H Christ!

Dophus · 21/07/2009 09:30

Flowers in the attic
Ken Follet
Jackie Collins
Harold Robbins

Such quality reading! At least I was only 12.

Which book was the prince and the goldfish in - I remember that one! I was always concerend what would have happened if he didn't get it out!

JamieJay · 21/07/2009 09:34

Jilly Cooper (Riders, Polo et al).

I was an avid reader in primary school and had read all the books on offer there (small school so small library). Moved onto my mums books during my last year there and Polo was the first I read. Headmaster almost called my mum into school as he didn't approve of me reading such stuff.

tiredandgrumpy · 21/07/2009 12:39

Ooh Lace - was thinking about the goldfish only the other day. Also 'North & South' - was a tv series which was far raunchier in the book.

Mspontipine · 21/07/2009 12:46

Dad's underbed porn mag stash!!

In English we were encouraged to make a list of books we were reading in the back of our exercise books. I was an avid reader through childhood - Enid Blyton....then pony books.....by 11,12 was enjoying mainly Jackie Collins The Bitch, Stud etc - listed them all - never any comment from teachers!!

Jackie Collins was pretty tame though when compared to Jily Cooper - her sex scenes are outright filth!! !!!

euromum · 21/07/2009 12:53

Another vote for Lace here. Came across it in a second hand bookshop a couple of years ago and re-read it, the first non-literary book I had read for ages ( at own snobbish tendencies). Still a great read and it kickstarted a phase of reading nothing but trashy novels and detective fiction that I'm still in - though having 2 kids and developed baby brain in the meantime might have something to do with that too...

"Which one of you bitches is my mother" surely qualifies as one of the best plot lines ever, and I too have been vaguely disappointed by the failure of any man so far to replicate the goldfish thing .

euromum · 21/07/2009 12:54

Although does anyone actually want a goldfish there I wonder?

juneybertiebottsbean · 21/07/2009 12:55

I remember hiding a Mills and Boon I had stole from my nanas house when I was bout 14 lol

lljkk · 21/07/2009 12:56

My Darling My Hamburger, and The Pigman, by Paul Zindel. Because they showed how confused and murky relationships can be, how unpredictable and out of control the whole process is, lol.

Lammie · 21/07/2009 13:09

Are you there God it's me Margaret.-Judy Blume. Read this one first and then go onto Forever -Judy Blume. The first one is about buying first bra and realationships and feelings with peers and parents. The latter one is more first encounters. The rung infront of the fire scene still sticks in my memory.

Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure - utter filth.

Did it at uni aged 18. Aged tutor clearly got kicks out of discussing it with us. Filthy sod.

notamumyetbutoneday · 21/07/2009 15:44

Princess Daisy
Lace
There was a Jackie Collins one with the red cover- cant remeber for the life of me what it was called! Thats going to drive me mad until I remember.

They were my Mums and I would read them whilst she was out

LadyGlencoraSnape · 21/07/2009 15:47

Harold Robbins (particularly one called The Pirate) and Princess Daisy. And The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart which was quite eye-opening for a 12-year-old.

mollyroger · 21/07/2009 15:48

oh god, Julie Burchill's Ambition has popped into my head.. but I devoured it at the time.
Also a really trashy American book called The Debutantes

ButterbeerAndLemon · 21/07/2009 15:53

The only bit of Lace I've actually read is the goldfish bit... . That got passed around the whole class when we were 13/14 or so.

Sunshinemummy · 21/07/2009 16:01

Forever by Judy Blume
The Farmer's Naughty Daughter - no idea who by but it did the rounds at school.
The White Hotel by DM Thomas
