God,that film enthralled me ggg. Thought it was true for years and years.
(Natch I know the story of the baby who disappeared at Uluru (Ayers' Rock) inside out..)

gggl, I remember that film and the book, so well. Very clever and atmospheric. Even though it was unmasked by the writer as a literary hoax some years later I still can't shake off the "whatever happened to them" feeling.
Dominic Guard in spats didn't come close to the young Mel Gibson for me though, however bizarre the casting.

ladies, so sorry to have ruined it for you...towards the end of her life Joan Lindsay fessed up that it was all a figment of her imagination. She even wrote a "missing" chapter explaining what happened, but I had outgrown my teenage dreamer phase by then and never tracked it down. Irma, Miranda, Miss Whatsername, all entirely fictitious.
