parking tickets (the ones that you buy to park, not the ones given by wardens!).
A clean tissue.
Freebie ones picked up at the counter in Waterstones.
My packet of contraceptive pills have been known to work quite well too.

MitchyInge · 16/02/2009 21:58

I use a simple origami goat

Poledra · 16/02/2009 21:59

Empty envelopes, the corner ripped off a newspaper, the outside wrapper from Green & Blacks chocolate, drawings my DD1 has made for me to use as bookmarks, receipts and even, occasionally, the beautiful metal bookmark my MIL gave me .

Monkeygi · 16/02/2009 22:06

I am SO going to make an origami goat.....

Monkeygi · 16/02/2009 22:06

Hmm. Sounded sarky. Should've added

CharleeInChains · 16/02/2009 22:07

I want an Origami goat how do i make one?

MitchyInge · 16/02/2009 22:10

dunno

but here is a video showing you how to fold a towel into the shape of a goat?

CharleeInChains · 16/02/2009 22:11

Wow look at this Goat

psychomum5 · 16/02/2009 22:13

I have several book marks bought for me in the past, some of which I use, but normally I use the sticky label that priced the book folded over on itself (so not sticky anymore IYGWIM), or fold the page over.

ear buds work quite well too I have found

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 16/02/2009 22:19

ear buds? Please tell me they are clean!

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 16/02/2009 22:20

nothing. I don't do foldovers either, I usually just re-find the page by holding the book loosely until it falls open - most of the time it's about right.

Twims · 16/02/2009 22:22

Do what thumb witch does

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 16/02/2009 22:24

thumbw/twims - can't do that, can never remember the number and invariably end up reading over the same bit twice!

Either remember the page number roughly (can flick back and forth to get exact place, unless I am pregnant then I have no memory ), or any random bit of paper.

I have bookmarks somewheer

DontCallMeBaby · 16/02/2009 23:07

Freeby bookmarks. Bits of coloured paper with holes the shape of Hello Kitty in them (courtesy of DD). Leaflets. I used to be able to remember the page I was on in about three books concurrently, without fail, now I can't remember one.

boogiewoogie · 16/02/2009 23:08

Tag from new lingerie

girlandboy · 16/02/2009 23:12

One like this

Am I really sad to use a proper bookmark?

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 16/02/2009 23:16

girlandboy - really pretty. Nope, not sad. Organised.

OP posts:
kslatts · 16/02/2009 23:16

I use a post-it note.

Flamesparrow · 16/02/2009 23:17

I don't like those ones, they always seem to damage the pages too much for my liking.

My ideal bookmark is a receipt as it makes it interesting next time you read the book (leave it in there)

I found a mothercare one from 2003 in Jane Eyre

nkf · 16/02/2009 23:21

Nothing. I always seem to remember where I am. I do like books with those tassels though. I expect they have a name.

feedthegoat · 16/02/2009 23:22

I use half a photo with ds on. Other half did have me on but he used that for making a family tree picture and it is such a sweet photo of him I couldn't bear to throw it away!

girlandboy · 16/02/2009 23:23

I work in a library and have found some truly hideous things in returned library books.

The worst being......bacon rind and......thick yellow toe nails!

Poledra · 16/02/2009 23:24
