Love The Wire, hate The Shield.

As this is in fiction, I'll suggest - why not read some George Pelecanos? He wrote some Wire episodes, and there are other Wire staff writers with novels out there, or there's that 'Homicide' book, non-fiction that the Wire is sort of based on, by David Simon.

I've just got the last episode of series 5 to go. It's the best thing I've seen for ages.

It took me a while to get into series 1 though. I couldn't understand what people were saying and I kept falling asleep, I got into it with series 2, then went back and watched 1.

Watched series one on Virgin catch up on demand thingy last week and was hooked!

My complete 5 series box set has just arrived from Amazon, can't wait...

I agree that it takes a while to get into. Dh (who's Spanish) really couldn't get into it - the accents, the language and the slow start. Which meant that I had it all to myself!

I finished watching series 5 about a month ago, and I feel a gap in my life.

i love the wire too. am on series 4 and very worried about the plight of my fave character Omar...

I also LOVE The Wire - we've watched the first four series and can't bear to watch the final one so have gone back to the beginning to watch them all again (and refresh our memories) before starting on the last one ().

The only thing I'm a bit upset about is that my DH has started calling our rather rotund DS (5mnths) 'Prop Joe' - that's not right, is it?!

Have just snorted all over the screen at 5 month Prop Joe. I love the Wire, am on season 3, tell me it stays good. Was also a wast wing addict (though now with the Obama administration I find it hard to separate fact from fiction)
So spoiler wise, have we all seen season 1?

Lol at Prop Joe!! He has some great lines, as does Bunk. Classic. My DH and I used to find ourselves walking and talking like the characters!

No spoilers as, although I've seen them all, I would have KILLED anyone who ruined it for me. Don't go on the HBO website as, despite the fact it's great for helping to explain some of those confusing plots aspects within some episodes, you can't help seeing stuff that you'd rather you didn't about the fate of some of your characters....
