Mine was Prince Caspian.
And my most recent was the King of the Gyptians in The Dark Materials.
Show how I've changed. It used to be a boy King. Now it's a fatherly type.

Oh yes, See You Thursday! Tortured musician. Fab.

Am I the only person who preferred the older brother in Flambards? Was his name Mark?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 27/01/2009 20:36

Yes, you absolutely are Libra! How could you!

ScummyMummy · 27/01/2009 20:37

The cruel sadistic one? Well the crying one who hated hunting one was a bit wet, I suppose.

Fennel · 27/01/2009 20:41

It had to be Titty not Nancy, if you're going for swallows and amazons girls.

But I agree with all the Noel Streatfield difficult and unmusical middle girls with no ballet ability. Wonderful, all of them. Especially Petrova.

Onlyaphase · 27/01/2009 20:52

All rather predictable...

Gilbert Blythe

Mark Russell and Will's pilot friend in The Edge of the Cloud, can't remember his name

Patrick Pennington - though I also liked KM Peyton's other heros especially Jonathan.

Ace Mulholland from Prudence

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 27/01/2009 20:56

Probably Dickon from The Secret Garden. I was quite young

Eowyn · 27/01/2009 20:58

Sad to say the first thing that came into my head was Benjy from The Children of Cherry Tree Farm cos there was a nice illustration of him. V fustrating to get it for dd & different illustrations, wanted to check out my childhood taste..

jkklpu · 27/01/2009 21:01

Almanzo Wilder

EachPeachPearMum · 27/01/2009 21:04

Nooooo- Nancy was way better than Titty!

Janeite Wild Sheep Chase is my favourite of Murakami's.
WHich one(s) has DP read?

seeker · 27/01/2009 22:15

Meryon Fairbrass

DreamingAboutSleep · 27/01/2009 22:38

I am very new to the world of MN but had to come in as I had totally forgotten about my huge crush on Julian from the FF and on Danny's (Champion of the World's) Dad!

I think my first love though was (rather predictably)with Mr Darcy from P&P!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/01/2009 12:08

The Scarlet Pimpernel

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:10

Bryony (a fairy) in Annabel and Bryony. Which no-one has ever heard of.

Libra · 28/01/2009 12:14

OK. I AM the only one who liked the cruel sadistic one in Flambards.

Mind you, she had them all by the end of the series didn't she?

He was just so masterful....

slug · 28/01/2009 12:16

Harriet the Spy

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:25

Oh, oh, oh ... suddenly I am nine years old again, the world is full of hope and romance and dark, gorgeous troubled men to aspire to.

Libra, you're not alone. Quite liked Will but secretly thought he was a bit of a wimp and was thrilled when Christina finally got it together with Mark in the end. Dick - wtf?

G Blythe, obviously.

Sebastian from the Wells books. Oh My God.

And Francis Babington!

Anyone join me in a crush on Patrick the Marlows' next door neighbour?

THANK YOU for starting this thread.

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:29

I'd forgotten Sebastion and Francis. I adored them both. And who was the one who married Ella? The vicar's son? He was the sort you'd actually want to marry.

seeker · 28/01/2009 12:30

My dd is seriously in love with Patrick!

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:32

Patrick was a bit... sensitive. Well, wimpy, really (we are talking about the one in the Autumn Term books here?)

pagwatch · 28/01/2009 12:32

Gilbert Blyth of course

But weirdly I did rather fancy Scott from Thunderbirds

  • how sad is that?
Libra · 28/01/2009 12:35

Yes CJCregg. You are right - she ends up with Mark, which means that she REALLY wanted to be with him right from the beginning.

Just like me.

Of course, she had to sleep with Will and Dick as well, just to try them out first. Completely messing with statistics for the likelihood of women getting married just after the First World War.

Was this girl a good role model for impressionable teenagers?

bronze · 28/01/2009 12:36

Scarily I'm in the middle of rereading the thuggery affair and thinking that Patricks a nice young man.

Were there any really bad Sadlers wells males apart from Nigel of course and I blame his mum for him.
They may have been worse later on I got a bit fed up of them after the first 10 or so.

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:36

(Hurray, I'm not the threadkiller I thought I was)

Yes, jeee, Patrick from the Antonia Forest books, which I still love. Not as sexy and masterful as some of the others (and he was the only boy around, so no odious comparisons) but I'd certainly have gone a few rounds with him. Think it has something to do with him snogging the au pair!

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:37

I hated Guy - slapping the girls to show who was boss. Frankly, I preferred Nigel to him.

bronze · 28/01/2009 12:40

See I don't remember him being like that but people have mentioned something to do with Patience whereas I only remember Guy doing his mountain rescue and the river crossing bit with Jane.

Ohh Ive just remembered the tall silent Scot
