I teach him RE and he says I will find it fascinating.

What is it about? Is it any good?

Let me know what you think.

psychomum5 · 19/01/2009 16:13

I have just read this book, and I personally enjoyed it.

it is very strong on the religion front, and quite funny in parts, gut wrenching in others, especially the part that describes the abduction, and then search for the girl.

I thought it would be a little OTT, but didn;t find it so.......in some ways it was quite thought provoking (in that it made me think about my beliefs, I was quite surprised to find I actually do have some!).

I found it an easy read, and would be happy to loan you my copy twinset

psychomum5 · 19/01/2009 16:14

or not, just readin that you have bought it

cornflakegirl · 19/01/2009 17:07

What's so amazing about grace is a fantastic book. I'm rereading it at the moment because my small group is studying Romans. The retelling of the prodigal son makes me cry every time I read it.

twinsetandpearls · 19/01/2009 19:50

That sounds very interesting Cornflakegirl.

So far have only read the into of the shack, will let you know when I get further

I read it, and I just feel like I wasted a few hours of my life by doing so.

twinsetandpearls · 20/01/2009 22:03

lol saphron.

My student came to see me today and was so pleased when I showed him my copy. I will read it to the end just so I can tell him.

How are you getting on, twinset?

twinsetandpearls · 21/01/2009 16:56

Had parents evening last night so no time for reading. I am going to start tonight, not least because I teach the student in in question on FRiday.

quickdrawmcgraw · 26/01/2009 09:49

just dragging this thread up because I finished it yesterday and was interested to hear what others thought.
I didn't hate the book but had to trudge through the first half to sort of enjoy the second half.
It is exactly the kind of book my right-wing-christian sister would give me to read and tell me it was a true story and really believe it.
So what did you think of it Twinset if you got to read it?

mysterymoniker · 26/01/2009 10:04

abandoned this book part way through

it really took the fun out of fundamentalism

I kept picking this book up and putting it back down in the supermarket. Bought it in the end and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Loved the twist at the end.

I didn't buy it for any religious beliefs.

RedtartanLass · 27/01/2009 22:20

Have you finished it yet twins?

BBBee · 31/01/2009 08:03

yes twins - we are following the story of you reading this book in anticpation.

SweetestThing · 31/01/2009 08:37

Morning.

I bought this book because I was intrigued by what people had said on this thread and I got part way through and put it to one side. Really struggled with it - it just felt terribly earnest to me and I kept imagining what perfect white American teeth all the characters would have .

Is it worth persevering? Sounds like the second half might be better than the first!

kingprawntikka · 02/02/2009 17:02

I've just finished reading it, and found the first half hard to maintain interest in, but I am glad I read it as the second half was more interesting and caused me to analyse some of my deeply held atheist beliefs. I quite like a book that challenges my opinions.

Milliways · 19/03/2009 23:10

Did you ever read/finish this Twinset?

BedofRosesItAintII · 24/03/2009 19:35

Twinset...

thatsnotmymonster · 24/03/2009 19:45

I have read it, as have my mum, sister and friend who leant it to me.

My mum amd sis are both doctors, friend a financial advisor, I have a degree in psychology. We are all Christians and all really enjoyed it.

I didn't think it was badly written at all (although I am an avid reader and will read anything )

It is fiction so you have to keep that in mind but it helped me to re-evaluate the way I relate to others and gave me a renewed perspective on unconditional love.

I know the What's so amazing about grace book is excellent- I must read that one too.

angrypixie · 24/03/2009 19:50

For me "BLEUGH" "BLEUGH" double "BLEUGH"

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 24/03/2009 20:08

^ Wot angrypixie said.

It's shite.

(My Born Again sis gave it to me for Xmas, and to our older sis for her birthday this month)

Steaknife · 24/03/2009 20:09

I just started this yesterday, I have been lent it by a lady in my French class.

I was a bit dubious about it from the back cover but I'll see how I get on.

BedofRosesItAintII · 24/03/2009 22:02
