cos I read upwards of 70.

I kept a list, most months i read a minimum of 6, sometimes 10!, and some months I forgot to write down any, but adding up, I reckon 70 is about right.

the worst.......Monster Love by carol tolposki.....blurb sounding really good, reality VERY disturbing.

the best......the twilight series by stephenie meyer.......read them all at least twicegrin].

Soooooooooooo.........How about yours, and what was your worst and best??

I too loathed the Gathering - wtf is going on with the Booker nowadays - how did that book even get on the longlist?

frisbyrat · 02/01/2009 23:38

68
(Yes, I have A LIST)

Jux · 02/01/2009 23:40

I have piles of read books against one wall of my room. There are 6 piles of about the same height; the one I counted had 15 books in it. I can't be bothered to work it out. They're what I've read in the last 4 months.

SummerC · 02/01/2009 23:41

I love to read psychohohohoho. It's my wind-down time. My dd goes to bed at 8 and I turn on the fire, snuggle down under a blanket on the sofa and read for 3 for 4 hours...and during her naps in the day and even while she plays on the floor in front of me. hehehe

Saying that, I've been on MN for almost 3 hours tonight so I have missed my reading time. Guess 2009 will only be 199 eh?

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 23:45

expat, they better.......I have at least one per month from their selection!

if we are adding in the childrens books, I need to add at least 364 then!.......

gosh, now i'm thinking of getting a book to start a list!!

another one who goes to the library regualrly and gets about 4 or 5 books at a time. i read 'comfort' books ridiculously fast, and have one 'good' book going at the same time, which i read when i have the energy & peace to focus.

i think i was about 10 the first time i read a book striaght through, and stayed up until 5 to finish it. i just can't help myself.

i read dd about 3 or 4 books every day as well, do they count?

hellymelly · 02/01/2009 23:57

Oh now I think I will start a list too ,I have no idea how many I read, but I generally have one on the go.This year I loved the night watch-Sarah Waters, and I am now readi ng a year at Walnut tree farm-roger Deakin, lovely.I think he sounds as though he was the perfect man (if you can get over the patchwork trousers).

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 07:13

About 30. Which was better than expected and about 30 more than I read the previous year

I have soooo enjoyed reading and hope I can manage another 30 this year.

For those of who read a lot, how do you find the time? When do you read?

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 07:15

Lots of lists on this thread

pamelat · 03/01/2009 07:21

About 35 and my DH considers this a lot, he reads about 3!

BoccaDellaVerita · 03/01/2009 15:16

About 30 - 40, I guess - two book groups and a few more for fun.

and at Jux - that's approaching a book a day!

cocolepew · 03/01/2009 15:18

At least 50. I would say more though.

dietstartstomorrow · 03/01/2009 15:21

OMG - I am so impressed with you lot!!! I need to seriously up my game, only read about 12 books last year.

I am starting a list today.

FlossieT · 03/01/2009 20:19

Just over 100. Psychobabble, also slogged through The Golden Notebook. DH tried to remind me about the "throwing good money after bad" when I got to about 250 pages and was moaning about still not really enjoying but I just couldn't listen, could I.

V impressed at 300, Quattrocento. Where do you find the time??

littlerach · 03/01/2009 20:21

62 and i have a list!

MiaWallace · 03/01/2009 20:21

I've kept a list which I put on the thread superbunny linked to.

Only 22 for me

Aiming to double that this year.

VintageGardenia · 03/01/2009 20:28

I keep a note of them too, just month by month title and author. 2008 averaged at about 5 per month with Aug and Sept being low because of new baby! My reading notebook was "tidied" away before a party we had before Christmas so now I have to keep my read books in a pile by the bed until I find the notebook!

Oh. Have just realised could write down titles somewhere else and reshelve books...

Anyway that's only about 60 books, I used to read more than that. I don't count e.g. Granta, etc, in my listings though, nor children's books, nor "bath reads" which is when you have an old thing to reread and don't care if it gets wet and can afford the time to keep topping up with hot till you've finished.

Cocodrillo · 03/01/2009 20:28

48!

Another anal person with a list here.

Not counting ones I gave up on - I've probably given another 48 50 pages or so.

notevenamousie · 03/01/2009 20:30

Almost 1 a week on average, I think. So 40-50. Will aim for the same, but a bit more proper literature!!

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 20:31

I have finished my first book of the year, hooray! Granted, it was only a children's book but I'm excited to have my first one listed [nerd]

I am also reading Atonement and Jane Eyre.

Wolfcub · 03/01/2009 20:33

I think I've read between 40 and 60 this year but I didn' t keep a list I can remeber some but I wish I could remember all of them so inspired by this thread I will be keeping a list this year.

Bink · 03/01/2009 20:42

I think I would like to join in this too.

This year is easy, I'm still not much more than half-way through Richard Ford's Independence Day, and it'll take me some weeks to finish - not skim reading material. Then I have The Sportswriter waiting, and a Wilkie Collins about a haunted hotel in Venice (present from clever dh). (Who also gave me this insanely funny book, first discovered via this here very forum)

I'm also redoing Shakespeare's Sonnets (that counts as a whole book, doesn't it, once I've done them all?).

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 03/01/2009 20:50

Great idea to keep a list. However I find I read a lot less since I discovered MN!

I go through stages but generally read around 2/3 a week. Gave up on a few this year though. Ploughed on with The Gathering as my Mum is from the area the book was set in. It was crap though!

Wheelybug · 03/01/2009 20:53

I was on the thread last year and said I would keep a list and would read 50 books. I managed 46 - would have been quite a few more but got pregnant and lost my concetration coupled with DH being quite seriously ill in hospital for most of Sept. BTW - the out of 10 scoring is done as we do at our bookclub so a score out of 5 for readability and a score out of 5 for content. Hence why some trash may score more highly than it should because it is, at least, very readable (if shite).

Am going to continue keeping a list this year but suspect my number of books will go down as am due with baby in March and I hardly read for ages after dd. Although I intend keeping up with book club at hte very least so that will be 12 ! Will try and aim for 25.

Wheelybug · 03/01/2009 20:54

BTW

God is an Englishman and Confessions of a failed southern lady were both book club reads.
