She was on the radio this mrning and said 'poncey' twice. It is a word I have never noticed outside mumsnet....is she moving amongst us?

We used the term 'poncy git'.

I was in my 20's when Zoe Heller was in her 20's and that was about 20 years ago - when things were 'fab, class or wick' and crisps were 7p.

donnie · 04/01/2009 15:04

she is tons better than that dreadful Zoe Williams who definitely IS a mner.

FunnyLittleFrog · 04/01/2009 15:08

We used the word poncy back in the 80s to describe someone who was a bit up themselves. I've definitely heard the word norks before too - think teenage boys were using it a few years ago. Fanjo just makes me think of banjos and Chas and Dave!

I liked Notes On A Scandal and got her new one for Christmas.

FunnyLittleFrog · 04/01/2009 15:13

Yes, Zoe Williams is v annoying. But probably I'm just jealous as I'd love to get paid to write drivel a column in The Guardian about my baby instead of doing a real job. Harumph!

I much prefer Zoe W's current mumsy incarnation, although she does write about other things too. I didn't like her pre-baby alcoholic incarnation at all. But I don't think she can be confused and dippy - her output is phenomenal in quantity, and she barely took any maternity leave. Whatever you may think of the quality, I think she has a very impressive work ethic. Go Zoe, if you're reading.

Monkeytrousers · 04/01/2009 20:24

Uh oh. That comment might just get the missiles flying.

pointydog · 04/01/2009 20:36

Sorry, DL, I thought you were implying from her appearance in Sainsbury's that she was generally confused and dippy. I know I usually look like a total space case in Sains. It's the lighting, I think, it fries my brain.

I wish she were more of a progressive feminist.

Aitch · 05/01/2009 00:41

not a fan.

but i've been here before with that Ronson prick.

Bluestocking · 05/01/2009 20:55

Are you worried that Mr Zoe might come on here swinging an axe around? The thing I object to most about ZW at the moment is that she has named her son Thurston. Why on earth would anyone so such a thing?

donnie · 06/01/2009 10:26

she was on the radio a while back (woman's hour maybe? radio 4 anyway) ranting and gnashing about The Hell That Is Single Sex Schools ( she went to one so apparently that makes her an Expert) but sadly she forgot to do any revision and got all her 'facts' wrong and ended up coming across as a complete tosser! still, it was nice to be amused for 10 mins so well done Zoe.

Merrylegs · 06/01/2009 10:50

Dawn French refers to norks in her book, 'Dear Fatty'.

morningpaper · 06/01/2009 10:53

I am currently reading her latest book, it is very well written

morningpaper · 06/01/2009 10:54

Poor Jon Ronson!

Bluestocking · 06/01/2009 11:15

Poor Jon Ronson nothing. I don't mind his writing but he shouldn't speak (or rather squeak, whine and gibber) on the radio.

FunnyLittleFrog · 06/01/2009 12:10

Julie Burchill shouldn't be allowed to speak either.
