She was on the radio this mrning and said 'poncey' twice. It is a word I have never noticed outside mumsnet....is she moving amongst us?

Monkeytrousers · 02/01/2009 16:35

I've never heard it on MN

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 02/01/2009 16:35

The word poncey been in existance long before mn

moondog · 02/01/2009 16:36

She's awful.
I hope not.

MascaraOHara · 02/01/2009 16:37

agree re poncey

but in a similar vain I've often wondered in Sophie Kinsella is a MNer - purely because I once saw a pic of her and though "oooh she looks like she would MN" LOL

stleger · 02/01/2009 16:42

Sure it exists, but does anyone use it? I think I only really started using it as a result of mumsnet...Off to google a picture of Sophie!

Monkeytrousers · 02/01/2009 17:21

People been using it round these 'ere parts since the invention of Wham!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/01/2009 17:22

Used here alot too.

27 · 02/01/2009 17:24

I wouldnt think of poncey as being a mumsnet word.

If someone on the radio started talking about norks and fanjos, that would make me think they were on mn

jujumaman · 02/01/2009 17:35

Why do you think she's awful, moondog?

I worship her

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 02/01/2009 18:37

why do you worship her?

bamboostalks · 02/01/2009 18:38

She is an amazing writer.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 02/01/2009 18:38

I've heard poncetastic on the names board but that's all.

I've never read one of her books tbh. Have no opinion on her.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 02/01/2009 18:39

I bet they're all on here, plundering our wit for their next bestsellers.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 02/01/2009 18:40

Sophie is really madeleine Wickham. She used to be quite boring as MW and then she became funny as SK, which is apparently her middle name and her mother's maiden name...

She underwent the change after going on mn I presume

moondog · 02/01/2009 19:02

Overrated and smug.
Also too many navel gazing columns.
That book 'Notes from a scandal' was just dull.

ScottishMummy · 02/01/2009 19:08

amazing as it is the world does not revolve round MN poncey is a colloquialism pre-dating MN

jujumaman · 02/01/2009 19:28

To be fair, she regrest the navel gazing columns - and I thought some were v funny.

Thought "Notes from a Scandal" was overrated but still good. Dreadful film though.

janeite · 02/01/2009 20:13

"Notes from A Scandal" was dreadful imho.

ScottishMummy · 02/01/2009 20:15

yes it was

Bluestocking · 02/01/2009 20:20

I'm the same age as ZH and, like her, grew up in London - poncey (although I'm pretty sure we spelled it poncy) was a standard term of abuse among my friends. I don't think the young people say it though.

bagsforlife · 02/01/2009 20:20

Enjoyed the book, haven't seen the film. Zoe Heller seems nice in interviews I've read. Can't imagine her being a mumsnetter though, bit too 'transatlantic' and prob far too involved in RL and writing novels etc

NotZoeHeller · 02/01/2009 20:24

No I'm she's not!

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 20:36

lol....I was going to say the same as 27

poncey is not all that uncommon round these parts, neither....but...norks and fanjo now those words would really scream mumsnet, lol

ScottishMummy · 02/01/2009 20:40

well had never heard norks/fanjo until MN actually don't like them.they are icky

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 20:49

lol scottish...I quite like norks....fanjo is the one I think is a bit weird, lol
