…what will I like next? Awaiting the latest in the Strike series and not sure what’s next while I wait. Help!

Tana French, most of hers are good and I really liked the Searcher

Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie, and her other books also.

Anthony Horowitz,

Jannett Hallett, The Appeal and A Killer Question, v good.

Worth sticking past the first one or two, they’re good when you get into them.

I read samples of a couple of the later ones too, as people said they get better. The opening pages of 3, 4 and 5 didn’t do it for me either. I feel like I’ve given them a fair shot and that they’re not for me.

No intention of imputing a struggle for the OP.

Seconding @deeplybaffled 's recommendation of Peter Grainger. Another suggestion is Chris Hammer, an Aussie crime writer who reminds me of Michael Connelly.

I really enjoyed Cara Hunter's DI Adam Fawley series. I love a good Police procedural and these felt just right.

There’s a thread on Mumsnet devoted to the Maeve Kerrigan books by Jane Casey.
Because of it, I read a few of them.
They’re good.

I tried tana French but the likeness is about a woman who is a doppelganger and manages to move in with people who knew the other woman for years and they believe she is that woman. The whole thing was so stupid. I couldn't get past it to read any more.

Kate Atkinson, though the style is more literary fiction than the Strike books.

Have you read Ruth Rendell? Her books are fantastic.

Agree, these are great. The first couple are just OK but stick with them.

I also like M W Craven’s Poe and Bradshaw series.

Agree. The first couple of Maeve Kerrigan books are just okay, but the rest of the series is terrific.

I like william Boyd for intelligent twisty thrillers they are more espionage than murder.

Jane Harper’s crime novels are excellent. Second the recommendation for Elly Griffiths’ Ruth Galloway series too.

Minette Walters books are excellent.
