…what will I like next? Awaiting the latest in the Strike series and not sure what’s next while I wait. Help!

Tana French?

Papyrophile · 23/10/2026 21:52

There is so much brilliant crime fiction (much much better than Cormoran Strike) that I wonder why you are struggling for new ideas. Michael Connelly, Quentin Jardine, Peter May are all waiting for you to discover them.

LittleEsme · 23/10/2026 22:25

Thanks! I’ll take a look!

Out of who you’ve mentioned, who’s your favourite and why?

Second Tana French, one of my favourite authors.

Shinyandnew1 · 23/10/2026 23:51

The Shardlake series is good as well.

MrsFionaCharming · 23/10/2026 23:57

The Maeve Kerrigan books by Jane Casey

CurlewKate · 24/10/2026 00:02

Ellie Griffiths?

ThreeMogsAndCounting · 24/10/2026 00:05

Im watching with interest. Also a Strike fan, but particularly the audiobooks. Robert Glen isherwood does such a good job of them. So do any of the authors mentioned have good audio books in existence?

I love a good crime novel.on my commute.

The Maeve Kerrigan books by Jane Casey

Agree, these are great. The first couple are just OK but stick with them.

I also like M W Craven’s Poe and Bradshaw series.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2026 22:43

Yes to the Washington Poe series! The Shardlake books are great, but they are nothing like RG.

I'm afraid I found the first Maeve K completely unreadable. I could really do with a new series too, but this one just isn't for me.

Watching avidly.

I find I like Galbraith because there are small details about the experiences of women that men just can't write.

deeplybaffled · 24/10/2026 22:50

I love Strike too! Quentin Jardine began well
IMO, but it all got a bit incestuous and silly when his characters were all on their third divorce. The first 8 books or so are good.

Ian Rankin? Ann Cleeve?

I really rate Anne Perry but Victorian crime novels can be quite marmite.

But my current favourite is probably Peter Grainger.

disgracefullyyours · 24/10/2026 22:51

The Jackson Brodie books, by Kate Atkinson.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 24/10/2026 23:29

Came onto to say Jackson Brodie.

Anthony Horowitz Hawthorn murders are fun.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 24/10/2026 23:51

Mick Herron? The Slow Horses series?

Boudy · 24/10/2026 23:55

Deffo Tana French.Dublin Murders series
Nicci French..Frieda Klein series
Kate Atkinson Case Histories and others( Jackson Brodie).
Susan Hill. The Simon Serralier(sp) series

Boudy · 24/10/2026 23:57

Also Ann Cleeves Vera and Shetland series are brill and a billion times better than the tv shows. I particulary enjoyed Shetland ones.

feellikeanalien · 25/10/2026 00:08

Mari Hannah is good. Set in Northumberland.

Peter May and the Lewis trilogy. Also his books set in China.

Ann Cleeves, Not just her Shetland and Vera books but also the Inspector Ramsey series.

The Maeve Kerrigan books by Jane Casey

Seconded. This is a great series

HeddaGarbled · 25/10/2026 00:18

If it’s the will-they-won’t-they romance that you like, Ellie Griffiths’ Dr Ruth Galloway series is good.

VashtaNerada · 25/10/2026 00:21

Also came on to say Kate Atkinson. I get them confused and spent the first few pages of one wondering where Robin had gone!

I don’t think she said she was struggling. She was looking for recommendations.

Worth sticking past the first one or two, they’re good when you get into them.

The Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter.
