Favourite Lisa Jewell thrillers and other thriller recommendations?

Reading 'invisible girl' at the moment and before that read 'dont let him in'. I never read a thriller before having my twins 2 years ago and now I love them, they're just pure escapism! I've read most of Lisa Jewells thrillers now....favourites were 'the night she disappeared" and "watching you'. Wasn't that keen on "and then she was gone' or 'the family upstairs' but still quite enjoyable.
I also really love Ruth Ware.
What are your favourite Lisa jewell thrillers or just thrillers in general? And different authors you would recommend?

I’ve DNF’d the first Lisa Jewell book I tried to read. I should really give it another go..

I did however read BA Paris - The Prisoner.

absolutely fantastic book, I love the way it’s written it keeps you reading on and not wanting to put the book down. Honestly in my top 5 thrillers so far.

feemcgee · 17/07/2026 19:10

Freida McFadden books are great thrillers with a twist.

Blackcountryexile · 17/07/2026 19:24

I liked None of This is True by Lisa Jewell.
Others you might like are
Room 706 by Ellie Levenson
59 Minutes by Holly Seddon
The Cut Throat Trial by S J Fleet
Someone in the Attic by Andrea Mara.
The Mother by TM Logan
I've read several by Gillian McAllister, Abigail Dean and Erin Kelly and enjoyed them all.

I love LJ but find her really hit and miss. None of this is true is SO good though

LoafofSellotape · 17/07/2026 19:43

The house we grew up in is brilliant as is The truth about Melody Brown

LoafofSellotape · 17/07/2026 19:43

Vince and Joy

I really like Clare Douglas, Jane Corry, TM Logan and Gillian McAllister. I’ve enjoyed most of Lisa Jewell’s books too.

Tillow4ever · 17/07/2026 21:23

I just read “Don’t let him in” on holiday this week - loved it! I’ve enjoyed all of gets that I’ve read so far.

I read a couple of Claire Douglas and there good too.

Sydney Seldon is brilliant (although make sure you get his stuff, not the stuff since he does with someone writing in his style). I can’t remember now if they were thrillers or not, but they kept me on the edge of my seat.

Bobbieiris · 17/07/2026 21:42

Ooo these recommendations all sounds so good, thank you 😊 I've been meaning to read Gillian Mcallister and Clare Douglas

Louise Candlish or Sabine Durrant have a similar vibe

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/07/2026 23:42

I’ve read all her books - None of This Is True is the one I would recommend most highly. I just finished the most recent one (Could Have Been Her or something?) and didn’t love it.

@Bobbieiris you are spot on when you say pure escapism. I got into these books when my teen DD had a period of severe mental health problems and I devoured them - DD much better now but these books have stayed with me! I have just finished the new LJ one and it’s good but I didn’t love it nearly as much as ‘Don’t let him in’

I have also enjoyed pretty much all of TM Logan’s books which are in a similar vein and not totally the same but Liz Nugent’s books are also great. I recently read ‘the truth about Ruby Cooper’ - not exactly the same genre as it tips over into family saga and addiction but I loved it.

You have probably heard of Freida McFadden books too - a US written. She has written a lot of these books. The Housemaid and follow up books are most enjoyable.

I really like Lisa Jewell, I am rubbish at remembering book titles though and dd must have most of them, my favourites have been Don’t Let Him In, The Family Upstairs and the hoarding one. I also enjoy Adele Parks, Claire Douglas and Dorothy Koomson.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Yesterday 10:04

I’ve read None Of This Is True, The House We Grew Up In, Don’t Let Him In and It Could Have Been Her all of which I thought were good. The House We Grew Up In isn’t really a thriller though it’s more a family saga.

onemoreicedcoffee · Yesterday 10:09

Harriet Tyce is also good. I really liked Blood Orange.

Passingthrough123 · Yesterday 10:10

Andrea Mara, Liane Moriarty, Catherine Ryan Howard.

Randombigswede · Yesterday 11:01

I agree that Lisa Jewell is hit and miss although more hit than miss to be fair! Similar authors that I love:
Lucy Clarke
Ruth Ware
Lucy Foley
Gillian McAllister
Louise Candlish
Kristen Perrin (castle knoll series)
Peter Swanson
Janice Hallett - different style completely but incredible twisty, clever mysteries!

I don’t enjoy BA Paris, Alice Feeney or Freida McFadden as there’s just too much suspension of disbelief required for me but appreciate that they are very popular and lots of people love them so definitely a case of personal preference

Yes, definitely agree, these two writers are excellent. Also really enjoy Nicci French (especially the earlier novels from them)

I read the Girls who Disappeared last summer on holiday. It's a Clare Douglas one. Good holiday read.

I loved And Then She Was Gone. I cried buckets.
