50 Books Challenge 2026 Part Six

Welcome to the sixth thread of the 50 Books Challenge for this year.

The challenge is to read fifty books (or more!) in 2026, though reading fifty isn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, and please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

If possible, please can you embolden your titles and maybe authors as well of books you've read or going to read as this makes it much easier to keep track of books or authors that may appeal (or not appeal) to everyone else.

We went to Turkey years ago on a bargain package that included 'two-centre' B & B accommodation in Bodrum and Kuşadası, but decided to hire a car and just take off for a few days. We got rooms from people who came up to us and offered 😬😱 - there were loads of them all descending on the tourists offering accommodation in their homes in the countryside. I remember being woken in the pitch black by a muezzin, and creeping out of one place to get going early while it was still cool, leaving the cash for the stay on the table. Everything was fine though basic, but there’s no way on earth I'd dream of doing that now!

48 The Close by Jane Casey

Maeve Kerrigan #10 and I am just about keeping to my resolution of limiting myself to one a month. She's not making it easy, though, with the continued romantic tension! This instalment sees Derwent and Maeve pretending to be a couple as part of a somewhat improbable undercover stakeout in a seemingly-normal close. Predictably, it's anything but normal, and they end up with more than one crime on their hands. I figured one of them out myself, which I don't usually manage with Casey. Enjoyable as always although I found Maeve a bit wetter than normal in this one. Hoping she's back to her spiky self next time.
