She keeps re-reading Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Skandar, Crookhaven and Rick Riordan's books (Percy Jackson, Magnus Chase and Kane Chronicles), Kay's Anatomy and Inventions.

I promised her a couple of new books, so I need to deliver!

Would Michael morpurgo be any good? What about animé books?

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 14/05/2026 17:28

I Capture the Castle?

midJulytarget · 14/05/2026 17:33

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

My ds read it (and the other 4 in the trilogy) over and over when he was 14

LucyJoanCarlyle · 14/05/2026 17:37

The Lockwood & Co series of 5 books - I love them, as my username attests Blush

Peopleshouldhavetails · 14/05/2026 17:42

My DD read Arena 13 series by Joseph Delaney after the Riordan books.

Then enjoyed all sorts of Young Adult Fantasy books - Sarah Maas- books; the powerless trilogy (forgotten the author); Cassandra Clare books

stample · 14/05/2026 17:48

Darren Shan books

Newnammmme · 14/05/2026 17:49

and a film and tv series.

im also currently re reading them . As im under 40 , so have decided im too a young adult x

Judy Blume. The best novels for teenagers.

Tellmetomorrow57 · 14/05/2026 18:07

Does she like dystopian? The arc of a scythe books (trilogy) or The Hunger Games - I'd say she's the perfect age for them.

Honestly I'd make a day of it and go for coffee/hot chocolate/bubble tea and let her choose some (this may work out expensive!) I just think that browsing is so powerful ❤️

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/05/2026 18:09

Patrick Ness books quite a range to choose from

Benvenuto · 14/05/2026 18:35

Fantasy / horror suggestions
Skulduggery Pleasant
The Belgariad by David Eddings (old but would follow on from Skandar etc)
DS read through Terry Pratchett at that age

Kevin Crowley-Holland’s Arthur Trilogy would follow on from Rick Riordan as would Diana Wynne Jones

VikingLady · 14/05/2026 18:40

Terry Pratchett? The Tiffany Aching books.

And I always recommend Tamora Pierce. Some of her later books are more mature.

FionnulaTheCooler · 14/05/2026 18:45

My 15 year old likes The Hunger Games, anything by Karen McManus, Benjamin Dean, A Good Girl's Guide to murder. She likes books where people die in a variety of horrible ways 😂. I must introduce her to Stephen King soon.

Fishslice23stuck · 14/05/2026 20:07

As she likes Rick Riordan, Roger Lancelyn Green wrote a couple of children's books on Greek Mythology. Rick Riordan wrote an introduction to the first one.

Hackedoffinoldage · 14/05/2026 22:57

The Alex Rider series is fab. There’s a film and a couple of TV series too.

SonnyHoney · 14/05/2026 23:11

What about the first book in the Thursday Murder Club?

I think the first one was pretty PG.

Creepybookworm · 14/05/2026 23:17

Things that are popular with 14 year old girls I work with:
Gone Series by James Dasher
Hunger Games
Powerless
Rick Riordan
Shatter Me series
Inheritance Games
Leigh Bardugo - Grishaverse
Anything by Karen Mcmanus or Holly Jackson
Sue Wallman (like the above thrillers - no swearing)
More popular with boys but I think they are fantastic - Arc of a Scythe by Neal Shusterman and The Enemy Series by Charlie Higson

Lkt32 · 14/05/2026 23:59

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman (Northern Lights is the first one).

End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas

JimJamJelly · 15/05/2026 00:02

I've just bought the first box set of Wings of Fire for my Skandar loving 10 year old, reviews said they were suitable for adults too. He's a boy who also likes Beast Quest and is obsessed with dragons though, so may not be her thing.

Reader19 · 15/05/2026 01:33

His Dark Materials is absolutely brilliant, and if she likes HP she is likely to enjoy it.

Fire and Hemlock - Diana Wynne Jones

If she likes Greek Myths, she could try Ovid's Metamorphoses, an ancient collection of myths interwoven around the theme of change. I like the recent translation by Stephanie McCarter which also sets it out in episodes, so it feels quite accessible.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/05/2026 01:36

Discworld

Lookonline · 15/05/2026 01:48

The Belgariad series.
Tarzan of the Apes

SpiritAdder · 15/05/2026 02:36

Old but good
Dragonlance series

Pyjamatimenow · 15/05/2026 07:35

Mine has just really enjoyed My Sister lives on the Mantlepiece

Spaghettijetty · 15/05/2026 07:35

The Cherub series by Robert Muchamore - loved those as a teen, it’s about teenage spies, they’re really easy to read and there are loooads of them.
