50 Books Challenge 2025 Part Eight

1000 replies

Southeastdweller · 23/10/2025 19:29

Welcome to the eighth thread of the 50 Books Challenge for this year.

The challenge is to read fifty books (or more!) in 2025, though reading fifty isn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, and please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

If possible, please can you embolden your titles or / and maybe authors as well of books you've read or going to read? It makes it much easier to keep track.

Some of us like to bring over lists to the next thread - again, this is up to you.
The first thread of the year is here, the second thread here , the third thread here, the fourth thread here , the fifth thread here , the sixth thread here and the seventh thread here

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling much better now and thanks for the audio recs. I see there is a first book out in the Detective Grasby series(Murder at Holly House) so I've reserved it from the library and will get the second on audio if it hooks me

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2025 13:19

Yes, do that one first!

bibliomania · 10/12/2025 14:07

Ooh, report back, @AgualusasL0ver!

Sorry to hear about Sophie Kinsella. Never read her books, but 55 is no age.

ChessieFL · 10/12/2025 14:49

I watched Outrageous when it was first on a few months ago and thought it was just OK (in fact I’m not sure I finished the series). They didn’t get the ages of the youngest sisters right and I wasn’t convinced by all the casting. I just wasn’t grabbed by it which is a shame.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/12/2025 16:15

@AgualusasL0ver@ChessieFLI took a look at it and thought, this isn’t the Mitford adaptation I am looking for

AgualusasL0ver · 10/12/2025 16:19

I've watched one episode and it isnt grabbing me, but I will see it through.

In other news I HAVE GOT A NEW JOB starting Monday and of all the applications and conversations I have/am having it is the role I wanted but elevated.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/12/2025 16:46

That’s great @AgualusasL0ver Best of luck!

CornishLizard · 10/12/2025 16:50

Congrats, @AgualusasL0ver !!! Hope it all goes well.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 10/12/2025 17:02

Great news - enjoy your few days off before it’s back to the grindstone @AgualusasL0ver

AgualusasL0ver · 10/12/2025 17:03

Hahah, I have earmarked tomorrow for nothing but tea drinking and reading.

ÚlldemoShúl · 10/12/2025 17:20

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver
🎊🌟🩷 Yay!!

Welshwabbit · 10/12/2025 17:27

I love ROTD, there's a page near the end that breaks my heart every time I read it. I liked NLMG; my husband, who is a proper sci-fi person, thinks it's derivative and pointless.

SheilaFentiman · 10/12/2025 17:36

Ah brilliant @AgualusasL0ver Flowers

nowanearlyNicemum · 10/12/2025 17:41

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver !!!

LadybirdDaphne · 10/12/2025 17:51

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver!

Terpsichore · 10/12/2025 18:07

Oh, well done, @AgualusasL0ver!

TeamToeBeans · 10/12/2025 18:13

I really liked Klara And The Sun but I agree with @ChessieFL that Ishiguro is so inconsistent! I had to double check that ROTD was actually by the same person, they are so, so different. I’m tempted to re-read it, as I feel like I must have misunderstood something vital!

Benvenuto · 10/12/2025 18:38

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/12/2025 18:43

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver

BestIsWest · 10/12/2025 18:57

Congratulations @AgualusasL0ver. Good luck.

BestIsWest · 10/12/2025 19:01

Sad to hear about Sophie Kinsella. I read her novella *What Does It Feel Like?about a novelist with brain cancer last year and it was very moving.
DD and I enjoyed the early shopaholic books and I liked The Burnout as well.

MaterMoribund · 10/12/2025 19:14

Excellent news @AgualusasL0ver 🎉

I’ve read a couple of books by Sophie Kinsella in the past and while they weren’t really my thing I could see that they were great examples of the type of book she aimed to write. She always seemed a decent person, too.
