I am an avid reader but keep on choosing duds and really want a bit of escapism. Favourite books I would recommend and enjoyed are:

Perfectly Ordinary People - Nick Alexander
The Quiet end of the world - Lauren James
The last one at the party - Bethany Clift
How to kill your family - Bella Mackie
Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus
Sorrow and Bliss - Meg Mason
The Silence of the Lambs - Thomas Harris
Hunger Games books
Alchemy - Rory Sutherland
I'm Glad my Mom died - Jennette McCurdy
You could be so pretty - Holly Bourne

Any have similar tastes that can recommend me something?

Tick Tock by Simon Mayo - I didn't think it would be my kind of thing but it had me hooked from the start.

Have you tried any of Liane Moriarty's books?

Thanks so much. I have read Strange Sally Diamond and agree it’s a great book. I have tried Liane Moriarty but couldn’t get on with it. I’ve just ordered Tick Tock - thanks for the recommendation.

I do read quite a bit so I’ve probably read (or tried) all the best sellers and popular books in the last 5 years. I guess I’m looking for slightly more unknown authors ideally with a slight dystopian theme (I’ve read all the big ones, Wool trilogy, Scythe etc)

Dystopian: Naomi Alderman (the power/the future) or Emily St John Mandel (any but esp Station 11)

Have you read Nina Millns's Goddesses @Guardup ? That's the one that sprang to mind when I read your update although I didn't like it at all 😆

I loved that book. It was th favourite book of the year at my book club.

Before & After by Andrew Shanahan

Lots of fun! Gripping with heart. It's everything I'd usually avoid in a book but I was hooked from page 1 and I think you might be too. And there's a sequel!

I've just finished The Passage, really enjoyed it. If you're a fan of dystopian novels then maybe you've already read it but if not I'd recommend!

Yes, sorry The Passage by Justin Cronin. I've not read many dystopian novels, I really enjoyed Station 11 and now this and it's a series so am looking forward to reading more!

Go back a bit and try some Octavia Butler? The Parable of the Sower is a great dystopian read.
