I love reading women's magazines, always have.

I've just been thinking of defunct women's magazines that I have enjoyed in the past, namely

Annabel (still have a free sewing kit that came with one issue)
Essentials
Family Circle
Living
She
Woman's Realm
Woman's World
Working Woman

Can anyone remember any that I may have missed?

Time and Tide - it is defunct but it's perhaps a tad old for what you're seeking

Ooh, "The Diary of a Provincial Lady" has many references to that! Think was very intellectual .

Just 17... came out on a Tuesdsy at 75p.

It was this that introduced me to public hair removal and I was absolutely shocked! Mind you, J17 itself didn't exactly promote it "Trim a little if you must".

I was so confused and my mum is an older mum, so felt embarassed asking her.

I think it was an early feminist magazine. What I do remember is that when I was a child many book covers quoted reviews from there.

Underrated classic.

Was it She that had so many puns in the titles of articles? It really started a fashion for snappy headings.
Nova as I recall was the one with some great photographs, often high contrast black and white.

Hi all! Franki, exec producer and host of Mag Hags, here! I came upon this thread while researching an upcoming episode and imagine my surprise and delight to see the show namechecked!

Anyway, real reason I'm logging on is to see if anyone remembers Eve magazine from the 70s. The internet has almost NO mention of it. In fact Google's AI tells me categorically that it never existed. And yet, here I have a copy in my hands!

I've attached a pic of the cover and a few of the inside pages. I'd love to know if anyone remembers reading it and can tell me anything about the years it ran. It was published by Spotlight Publications who also published Over21 (as well as Kerrang! and Music Week) but other than that I'm struggling to find out much about it.

I know this is an old thread but maybe someone will pick it up. Fingers crossed!

Late response!

Yes, Eve magazine existed well into the early 2000s I believe. I remember buying the last ever issue and it came with a free mascara as a farewell present for readers. think it was avon mascara. The magazine free gifts were unbelievably good back then.

“Real” magazine was my absolute fave but they got done for copying the red tops branding of red background tab and font even though the Sun, Star and Mail did the same!! Such a shame xx

JohnTheRevelator · 17/02/2026 02:00

Does anyone remember 'Annabelle' magazine? Must have been around in the mid to late 70s. Similar to 'She' magazine but a bit tamer! My DM would buy me one if I was not well and off school.

I loved magazines 30 years ago! I bought Company, Cosmo, J17, Mizz, and was there one called Catch? Loved New Woman too

I thought that was due to them appearing to copy Red Magazine? A previous poster made that point. I much preferred Real magazine to Red anyway!

Nova (which my mother bought but to be honest I was a bit too young for)

and Spare Rib

Also, does anyone remember ordering from Reddirect? it was a shopping supplement that came with Red magazine. I ordered a lovely work bag from there in 2013.

I do.
They had lovely things for sale.
It was in Marie Claire that I first read about the evil Romanian Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena and how they had treated the Romanian people. A couple of months later they were dead.
Overthrown in a rebellion.
I liked Marie Claire then.
It mixed serious articles with fashion and beauty.
I loved to read Tatler just to see how the other half lived. 😀
Goood Housekeeping and Woman and Home too were ones I’d buy. But their interviews are sycophantic - stuff like Lulu saying her ageless looks are down to good genes and the skin cream she was flogging.
Not just her of course.
PR guff.
So I don’t bother buying them anymore.

Vanessa Feltz wrote the sex column in She. Her articles were brilliant.
