Post apocalyptic books - recommendations?

Hello everyone. I have read the usual and really like this genre or very though provoking books. Last I read was Children of Time. I liked the concept but the spiders weren’t for me 😂.

Would anyone have any recommendations? Thank you!

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. Written before the pandemic but eerily prescient.

MarmotMorning · 28/12/2024 22:43

The Passage series by Justin Cronin is excellent.

I’ve read it but this is exactly what I love to read - thank you for the recommendation. I completely agree!

I came to say ‘The Passage’ and the Silo books.

Can I recommend The Last Man by Mary Shelly, yes, that Mary Shelly. Written in the 1820s it’s the very first post apocalyptic/dystopian future book.

The Chrysalids, John Wyndham.

Needhelp101 · 28/12/2024 23:12

Most of John Wyndham's books but especially The Day of the Triffids. I so wish that a new film adaptation could be made.

I read this and loved it. But thank you so much for the reminder as I had forgotten the title and would maybe want to reread.

Totally agree. Thank you - maybe as they have done a war of the world semi recently?

Another vote for The Road.
Also - another old book - Riddley Walker.
Robert Harris's The Second Sleep is interesting too.

The Stand - Stephen King

Totally agree but I’ve read it. I really appreciate the recommendation though thank you.

I loved the sort-of-sequels to Station Eleven as well (though not so post apocalyptic).

Children of Men (PD James)
John Christopher (Death of grass, The Guardians, Tripods, Pendulum).
Survivors (Terry Deary - much better than the tv series, but the sequels go a bit weird).
Stars Reach (John Michael Greer)
World built by hand (4 books by James Howard Kunstler).

Also seconding previous votes for The Passage trilogy and Silo.
