Mine will be Henry Mackenzie's The Man of Feeling. What do you hope to wrap up by Hogmanay?

Just finished The Offing by Benjamin Myers. I was very underwhelmed tbh.
The one before that was Ashes to Admin by Evie King which was very compelling.

Sophie from Romania, Rory Cellan-Jones. I am stretching it out by only reading when I’m downstairs. Upstairs on my Kindle I’m reading Hatchet Hill by David Gatward, but will probably finish that in a day or so. Not sure what’s next.

A pp said they’re going to read 100 books by the end of the year. Goodreads announced a couple of weeks ago I’d read 101 books this year! One of the great joys of being retired.

Butter - beautifully written and really draw you in.

Ooh - I'm reading this at the moment: might not be my last book of 2024 but enjoying it

Italiangreyhound · 29/12/2024 00:29

S.E. Shepherds 'New Memories'

AutoP1lot · 29/12/2024 00:42

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. I'm really enjoying it.

SwordToFlamethrower · 29/12/2024 01:11

R A Salvatore 1000 orcs

Jabtastic · 29/12/2024 01:16

Mine will be Orbital or Fight Club as I'm halfway through both.

Chinam · 29/12/2024 01:17

Frankie by Graham Norton. I’m about a third of the way through and really enjoying it.

Everythingaches · 29/12/2024 09:05

Finished Frankie last night, really loved it.

I didn't enjoy the Seventh son at all, and still feel aggrieved about it 😄. It really put me off SF.

I'm re-reading The hobbit, so think that will be my last book of the year. Reading it again was prompted by DS making us watch the 3 Hobbit films, and regularly thinking I'm sure this isn't what happened in the book.

I'm currently rereading Paul Murray's 'the mark and the void' following 'beesting' and 'skippy dies'. Skippy Dies is my favourite. I'll probably finish before new year.

I'm just over half way through The Bee Sting.
It has taken me about 2 weeks to read this far (I'm normally a fast reader) and whilst I am enjoying it, the lack of punctuation is really annoying. It's a barrier for me really enjoying it 😂
Get it's a literary technique and all that, but I really wish it wasn't 🤦🏻‍♀️

The Guilty One by Lisa Ballantyne. 50p in a Charity shop

Hoping to finish ‘The Lacuna’ and then move on to a Sebastian Faulks.

I've tried to finish Lacuna several times unsuccessfully! Mine is Wintering.

Yuja · 29/12/2024 19:20

I'm about 80% through Victoria Lloyd-Barlow's All the Little Bird Hearts so should manage to finish it by the time the year is out. It's really good so I'm glad to be finishing on a high

tobee · 29/12/2024 21:36

Probably Orbital which I'm reading now. It's so short but I'm a ridiculously slow reader 😬

Busywithsomething · 30/12/2024 13:09

Cloud Street by Tim Winton. Finished it this morning. Excellent read.

Starting a Matt Haig book soon which I asked for before I knew it wasn't fiction. I love his fiction so not sure how I'm going to get on with a more reality based book from him .

highlandcoo · 30/12/2024 13:23

I'll probably finish The Bell Jar today and start All the Colours of the Dark ( a Christmas present) later.

I will read the first few chapters of The Count of Monte Cristo for the Readalong, but need to have something else on the go too.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 30/12/2024 13:28

Audio book-The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Really good, but a bit on the tense side!

Physically reading, I just re read When Marnie Was There, which I loved as a child. And I'm about to start Orbital, so that will probably be my first book of the year.

Time40 · 30/12/2024 13:29

It's going to be Earth and Heaven by Sue Gee (beautifully written, great period detail ... and just a tiny bit boring - not a lot of actual story).

Queenfreak · 28/12/2024 20:22

The silence of girls, by Pat Barker.
It was read in my book club before I joined and has come highly recommended. Fingers crossed it's as good as I've been told. Starting tonight

It’s excellent, great choice

SheilaFentiman · 30/12/2024 13:58

Currently reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. It’s v good. I’m about a quarter through so might not finish but will try!

highlandcoo · 30/12/2024 14:18

@Time40 I love Sue Gee as a writer; she deserves to be more widely known. And Earth and Heaven is my favourite book of hers. There's one line in it that always makes me cry (and I'm not a crier at books as a rule).

MrsTaytodarling · 30/12/2024 14:22

Trawling through Yellowface by R.F. Kuang...

Londonnight · 30/12/2024 14:23

The Midnight Hour by Eve Chase

Bbq1 · 30/12/2024 14:36

The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas. I like a twisty, psychological thriller/mystery.
