Mine will be Henry Mackenzie's The Man of Feeling. What do you hope to wrap up by Hogmanay?

OP posts:

I am currently listening to Land Lines by Raynor Winn.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/12/2024 20:13

The resident by David Jackson, it's about a serial killer who has broken into an end terrace. The house is deserted, and he has realised he can go through the loft - and get into all the other houses.

Lunaballoon · 28/12/2024 20:15

In Memoriam by Alice Winn

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 28/12/2024 20:16

For those suggesting they will finish the year with Seventh Son - honestly don't. I really rather enjoyed it until I hit the last couple of chapters and I don't know the last time I've been so angry with a book! I'm not saying don't read it but I really wouldn't want to see the year out with it.

@HPandthelastwish - I recently read BBO and very much enjoyed and Once and Future Witches is great, as is WSM. The Strike series is amazing!

Im reading Frankie by Graham Norton, absolutely loving it.

fourelementary · 28/12/2024 20:18

Mad Honey

Jodi Picoult and J Boylam

student26 · 28/12/2024 20:18

Shadow of Night - Deborah Harkness

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 28/12/2024 20:19

I got bought The Mad Women's Ball for Christmas and started this afternoon, it's short so it's likely to be that.

HPandthelastwish · 28/12/2024 20:21

I just remembered I've got Witches of Vargo on the go in the car and Alchemist but I didn't really get into that

I used to be such an avid reader but I just keep falling out the habit. I like the idea of 12 books for the next year, I think I'll make that my New Years resolution.

Oh I love A Week in December although not read it for at least a decade. I love Sebastien Faulks although took DD to see Birdsong which was awkward far more nudity and sex than I'd anticipated on stage.😂

Queenfreak · 28/12/2024 20:22

The silence of girls, by Pat Barker.
It was read in my book club before I joined and has come highly recommended. Fingers crossed it's as good as I've been told. Starting tonight

Luminousalumnus · 28/12/2024 20:28

Hotel Avocado Bob Mortimer.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 28/12/2024 20:31

Happy Bloody Christmas by Jo Middleton Very lighthearted and funny, despite the murder!

RamblingEclectic · 28/12/2024 20:52

With the End in Mind: How to Live and Die well by Kathryn Mannix, wasn't intended to be for the end of the year, but it's very suitable and I've really been enjoying her insights and storytelling within this non-fiction book on her medical and personal experiences with the dying.

MonOncle · 28/12/2024 20:52

I’ll finish Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb for sure, that will take me to 39 books for the year. I’ve also got about 6 hours left of Wolf Hall to go on audio, though I don’t think I’ll manage it all in time which is incredibly annoying as I was hoping for a nice round 40!

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 28/12/2024 20:52

A Passage to India, because someone I'd lent it to finally returned it - and I remembered how much I love it.

WhisperTree · 28/12/2024 22:09

Starting to re-read AS Byatt's Possession - promised myself I would.

After that, The Silence of the Girls is also on my TBR pile @Queenfreak

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/12/2024 22:13

All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. I’ve really enjoyed it but ready for it to finish now so that I can start the new Jonathan Coe book which I got for Christmas.

I started reading Seventh Son this evening and it’s leaving me a bit cold. It’s lacking depth, so far.

Hoping to finish ‘The Lacuna’ and then move on to a Sebastian Faulks.

Lacuna is one of those books you wish you hadn't read so you could read it again! Beautiful!

"The Glutton" by AK Blakemore will be my last book of 2024.

So far, it's a fabulously creepy, funny, sensorial and intriguing festival of 18th century France. I'm really loving it.

suburberphobe · 28/12/2024 23:00

A clockwork orange

Brilliant film.

I'm reading a book I bought at the airport, loving it. It's light reading, just started it.

The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas.

medprocesspain · 28/12/2024 23:06

What have you done? by Shari Lapena. Only started it this morning but already over 1/3 into it so should finish it over the next three days.

lucy6058 · 28/12/2024 23:25

I just bought Butter today, won't finish before the New Year, but excited.to start. Comes highly recommended (by Waterstones!!!)
Have been listening to Hotel Avacado, an hour left so will finish that tomor. Really enjoying it, Bob Mortimer has very odd thoughts, but I enjoy hearing them!!!

SayithowitisYorkie · 28/12/2024 23:33

Am currently reading The Testaments, the follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Attwood. Not at all festive but I can’t put it down. Such a great read.
