50 Books challenge - 2024 roundup

RomanMum · 07/12/2024 16:06

Hello 50 bookers! Here's a separate thread to gather together our top recommendations from the year. Please post your final lists, or just your bolds if you prefer. If you’re posting the full lists just a reminder to please bold your favourites, and italicise the books you wouldn’t even pass on to your worst enemy.

I'll come back later in December with mine!

Brilliant, thank you @RomanMum!

Stowickthevast · 06/01/2025 15:05

Bloody Boring Butler award 🤣 brilliant!

Thanks so much for doing this @RomanMum , really interesting. Think I'll be removing The Maiden from my TBR list.

BlueFairyBugsBooks · 06/01/2025 15:07

Thanks @RomanMum interesting stats, and I'll have to add some of the popular ones to my tbr. I don't often read popular books Grin

MamaNewtNewt · 06/01/2025 15:14

Brilliant work @RomanMum I'm totally geeking out at all of the analysis. I love me some lists and data! Right I'm off to expand my wish list!

AlmanbyRoadtrip · 06/01/2025 15:25

Thinking about it, it does sound like a jazz group. Nice! 😁

So called because last year I put The Perfect Golden Circle down as a bold, but absolutely hated The Gallows Pole, which has put me off reading anything else by him since. I'm sure Cuddy is very good but I daren't risk it. I guess I'm not the only one with a reluctance to try different works from authors we were stung by in the past.

OP posts:
AlmanbyRoadtrip · 06/01/2025 16:39

I’m Cuddy’s biggest fan, as you know, but I haven’t been able to get through The Gallows Pole. So thank you for bestowing the author’s name on a 50 Booker’s phenomenon.

SheilaFentiman · 06/01/2025 16:41

Thank you @RomanMum - really appreciate it!

CutFlowers · 06/01/2025 16:48

Thank you @RomanMum . Brilliant job.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2025 16:55

Amazing work @RomanMum and I am immensely proud to be the inspiration for The Bloody Boring Butler award and, for 2025’s lists, The Load of Complete Twaddle category.

I would like to thank everybody who contributes to this Really Lovely part of the internet. Here’s to happy reading in 2025.

Boiledeggandtoast · 06/01/2025 17:09

Fantastic work @RomanMum , thank you! I particularly love The Bloody Boring Butler Award.

bibliomania · 06/01/2025 17:31

Love it, thanks @RomanMum !

Terpsichore · 06/01/2025 17:47

Heroic work, @RomanMum! Have a well-earned ☕️ although it ought to be a 🍷 (or several). Really happy to see several of my highly-rated non-fictions on the list, even if I didn’t read them in the last year.

ChessieFL · 06/01/2025 17:50

Brilliant work @RomanMum, thanks for doing that! Pleased to see Jilly getting a credit in the bolds list!

nowanearlyNicemum · 06/01/2025 17:59

This is such a wonderful analysis! Thank you so much @RomanMum - must have taken you bloody ages. Very much appreciated.

Welshwabbit · 06/01/2025 18:13

Thanks for all the hard work @RomanMum! I too am greatly enamoured of the Bloody Boring Butler award!

AgualusasLover · 06/01/2025 18:33

Thanks @RomanMum - I love this. My books never make the lists because I read everything 7 years after everyone else. Wonderful to see Jilly get a mention.

TattiePants · 06/01/2025 18:34

Thank you and brilliant job @RomanMum. I have a few of the highly rated books on my kindle so might bump them up the TBR list.

TimeforaGandT · 06/01/2025 18:41

Thank you very much @RomanMum. What a lot of work but so interesting to see. A few more to add to my pile!

Loving the BBB Award and the Benjamin Myers nod. I loved The Offing so much that I have never dared read any of his others as I assume they will be a massive disappointment.

CornishLizard · 06/01/2025 19:00

Wow - 970 entries and 779 titles - that’s amazing crunching RomanMum, thank you. What a great list. I have saved it for looking back on too. I love the award names especially the Myers award (I’ve got The Offing tbr and can’t seem to get past the first page!).

I’m slightly dismayed to see several books I DNF (and a few pretty much DNS after having reserved them from the library), especially on the non-fiction bolds. Will try to give things a longer go this year.

noodlezoodle · 06/01/2025 21:39

Sterling work @RomanMum, thank you. I'm also delighted to see Jilly coming in at 3rd most popular.
