I'd like to read one too.
What are you reading?

Must be some fans of horror around?

Not horror at all but I’m reading Rewitched which has a witch theme, but it’s very not horror!

Sixpence39 · 05/10/2024 21:46

Re-reading The Shining and the Haunting of Hill House. Following for recommendations! Haven't read too much horror but I love it and ti's the season.

LinkedinLovely · 05/10/2024 22:11

I'm going to read some Catriona Ward in the spooky season. I will star with Rawblood and make my way through them all.

GalaticalFarce · 05/10/2024 23:05

@LinkedinLovely I'll check this out as never heard of it.
@DanielaDressen sounds interesting! I love witchy stuff too.
@Sixpence39 fab books. I've read both

I am reading The Taming of the Shrew, and I have Dracula on my Tbr for October. I love a good spooky read.* * * *

YesYesAllGood · 05/10/2024 23:30

Hadn't planned to but you've inspired me! I have The Ring which I might read next.

wavingfuriously · 06/10/2024 15:03

Into the uncanny - danny robins

40somethingme · 06/10/2024 18:25

Reading Carrie 50th anniversary edition and planning to read The Shining too. Big fan of Stephen King but haven’t read these yet. Although inspired by this thread I’m now considering Dracula too.

Do you mean The Turn of the Screw?

I think I'm going to reread Dark Matter by Michelle Paver.

diggermama · 06/10/2024 18:45

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich beat me to it! Another vote for Dark Matter. One of the creepiest books I’ve ever read.

Hellohah · 06/10/2024 19:01

My friend bought me The Exorcist recently, I didn't even realise there was a book.

I haven't read it, but this thread has inspired me to do so.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/10/2024 19:04

Reading The Only One Left by Riley Sager. I usually read a horror book this time of year. Last year I read The Last House on Needless Street. For book club we’ve picked The Ghost Woods by CJ Cooke

gemdrop84 · 06/10/2024 19:04

I'm reading Hide when I finish my current book... last year I read Hex which really creeped me out!

CheeseSandyWitch · 06/10/2024 19:08

I'm reading The Troop by Nick Cutter.

MsAmerica · 06/10/2024 23:11

I never read anything "seasonal" - not for Christmas nor any other time.

And I avoid horror.

That said, Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived In the Castle is great.

Pancakeflipper · 06/10/2024 23:15

I want a good ghost story book.

Goodiewhemper · 07/10/2024 06:30

Ooh I love a good creepy or gothic story or two at this time of year. I am currently listening to How To Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix on Audible and (free with membership) and am enjoying it a lot. I am reading Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast which is perfect for this time of year. When I finish that I plan to read Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham and Pine by Francine Toon.

TotallyFloored · 07/10/2024 09:38

I've got Naomi's Room downloaded - not read it but its been recommended on here a bit (although its apparently very scary).

HarpyBirthday · 07/10/2024 19:54

Pine by Francine Toon is set in Scotland over Halloween.

Its more mythical/ atmospheric than outright horror.
Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver is really good.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 07/10/2024 20:00

I second Wakenhurst. (But I didn’t find Dark Matter that scary).

mrsCtheRed · 07/10/2024 20:29

I've never been one one for horror books.
But I do love a good gothic or victorian mystery, in the autumn 🍂 🥰

lunaxandilet · 07/10/2024 23:55

I would like a good ghost story/spooky/witches/zombies book.

I started reading Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert.

YES! I think I might mean The Turn of the Screw 😂😂. I am finding it quite a tedious story to be honest!

Hyperion100 · 08/10/2024 10:18

It was between the follow up to the Watchers (Stay in the Light) and Between two Fires.

Decided on Between Two Fires. More of a medieval Horror Fantasy but I'm enjoying it.
