If I liked :

Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
All by Raymond E Feist

sort of thing what else would I like?

My first foray many years ago was David Eddings and I loved them so carried on!

I have a lot of books but nothing new as I lost my reading mojo for many years sadly.

I've just finished the ACOTAR series and enjoyed that.

Thank you kindly ☺️

I loved David Eddings too! I could give you a huge list. I'll try to get back to you properly later on. Nice to meet a kindred spirit ☺️

chickpea1982 · 30/08/2024 07:43

Ok, here's my list:

  • Robin Hobb -Assassin's Apprentice (and everything else she has ever written)
  • Anne McCaffrey's Dragonrider series
  • Naomi Novak - Uprooted (so good)
  • The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
  • Jeff wheeler - King fountain Series (and pretty much anything else he has written)
  • Naomi Novak - A Deadly Education series (not your classic fantasy bit I loved it so much I was bereft when it ended)
  • David Anthony Durham -Thr War with the Mein
  • R F Kiang - The Poppy War
  • The Dragonbone Chair - Tad Williams

You might also try some of the more romantic types of fantasy. I'm not generally one for romance novels, but some of these have really great storylines. For example:

  • Jennifer Armentrout - Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire series
  • Jacqueline Carey -start with Kushiel's Dart (honestly one of the best series I've read in years, despite very unusual themes ...)

That should keep you busy for a while! Enjoy x

Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
Witch King by Martha Wells
The adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Charkrborty

HazelLion · 30/08/2024 13:03

Have you read the Lord of the Rings?

DancefloorAcrobatics · 31/08/2024 09:54

I can highly recommend S.A Chakraborty Daevabad series.

AnnotherReader · 31/08/2024 14:54

You could try Brandon Sanderson, they are great fantasy stories but written in an approachable, easy to read style. Start with the Mistborn series or Tress of the Emerald sea.
Or Robin Hobb the Realm of the Elderlings series is excellent but is not such an easy read if you are still trying to get back into fantasy following the loss of your mojo.

It's not a genre I read much, but I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. (Hence my username.) There are lots of them. Some people read them in order of publication and some prefer to read all the Witches stories in order, all the Watch stories in orders, and so on. I did the former. I was forewarned that they get better, which was helpful. So glad I stuck with them. Possibly time for a re-read over the winter.

This sceptre'd Isle by Mercedes Lackey with Roberta Gellis and its sequels, Ill met by moonlight, By scandalous tongues, And less than kind. I am rereading this set at the moment and enjoying them just asmuch as when I first read them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/This-Scepterd-Isle/dp/0743471563

Speakingofdinosaurs · 31/08/2024 15:45

Stephen R Donaldson - Mordant's Need which is a brilliant two book series with a female hero. Comprising 'The Mirror of Her Dreams' and 'A Man Rides Through'

Polgara2 · 31/08/2024 16:20

Oh excellent thank you all! I'll read everything properly when I get ☺️

Can second both Brandon Sanderson and Naomi Novak. Everything, but start with mistborn by bs. Uprooted, and the scolarmance trilogy by nn. Temarare also excellent.

FizzingAda · 31/08/2024 19:51

The Unlikely Ones by Mary Brown

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 01/09/2024 13:37

Maybe have a little foray into urban fantasy?
Patricia Briggs is excellent and I find her books fairly easy and quick to read.
Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series was great.

FiddleFigs · 01/09/2024 14:06

Throne of Glass - SJ Maas. I’ve finished it a few days ago and haven’t had such a bad book hangover before. Seriously considering re-reading all 8 books again 😅

Speakingofdinosaurs · 02/09/2024 18:44

MollyButton · 31/08/2024 15:13

L E Modsett junior.

I second this.

@chickpea1982 Yay another Eddings fan!
I've read The DragonBone chair and I started a Patrick Rothfuss one but couldn't get into it - I shall try again. I'll work through looking up the rest thanks!
