If I liked :

Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
All by Raymond E Feist

sort of thing what else would I like?

My first foray many years ago was David Eddings and I loved them so carried on!

I have a lot of books but nothing new as I lost my reading mojo for many years sadly.

I've just finished the ACOTAR series and enjoyed that.

Thank you kindly ☺️

Yes to everything Janny Wurts. I love her so much. The series she wrote with Feist is my favourite of his books.

The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron.

If you don't mind a significant amount of romance in with the excellent storyline then The Warrior Chronicles by KF Breene.

Jim Butcher's Codex Alera is light and fun. And if you like Urban Fantasy then The Dresden Files is grand (although, confession, I stopped at about book 11, which was fine).

Lindsay Buroker's Emperor's Edge series.

I have about eleventy billion urban fantasy recommendations, including more by Lindsay Buroker, if you're interested in those, both with and without a large romantic sideline.

Tree of ages is a fantastic series! Also her others series!

The author is a women, and you can really tell, as not only are the main characters female, but all the female characters are so well written and fleshed out!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/09/2024 19:13

Have you tried Jessica Thorne?

bryceQ · 02/09/2024 19:18

A discovery of Witches is really enjoyable.

Robin Hobb books great

Babel

Crescent City if you like romantasy

Another coming to say Brandon Sanderson!

Start with Mistborn era 1 (trilogy), try the older standalones (Warbreaker and Elantris) and move to Stormlight Archive, which is probably my favourite book series of all time. It's set in a world in war-time but it's much, much more than that. The way it deals with mental health, personal growth, and interpersonal relationships is stunning.

If you liked ACOTAR then try Throne of Glass and Crescent City (also by Sarah J Maas). ToG is the easier read but give it a bit of time - it takes a couple of books to get genuinely good IMO (she started writing the series as a teenager and it feels a bit YA to start, but does improve). CC1 is worth it once you get past the massive info dump at the start.

The October Daye series is great.

If you like Romantasy then the Jennifer L Armentrout Blood and Ash series and the spin offs are also good.

I was coming to say the Raymond E Feist Magician series is good too but see you're a fan of his already Grin

Jim Butcher's Codex Alera is light and fun. And if you like Urban Fantasy then The Dresden Files is grand (although, confession, I stopped at about book 11, which was fine).

Dresden gets so much better after book 13! I've read both series more than once (the audiobooks in particular are very good) and I do like them (I'm actually listening to Cursor's Fury at the moment!), but Butcher isn't exactly known for writing women well.

That's actually why I stopped reading them. Although you saying they get better after 13 is tempting...

Er. I looked and I have, in fact, read up to #15. I am shook.

I think the main female character in Codex Alera is better than his DF women, but it is a while since I read them so I could be wrong.

@BrownOwlknowsbest are they historical based ones?

This particular set are based on Tudor England, but Mercedes Lackey has written lots of fantasy books in different settings

There's probably an official description out there somewhere but I think of urban fantasy as fantasy set in our world. The twilight set, though YA, would class as urban fantasy I think.

@GrouchyKiwi hit us up with some urban fantasy recommendations please? I could do with some new authors to binge on.
