I've just finished said book, thoroughly enjoyed it.
No idea what to read next, can anyone inspire me please?

Second Lessons in Chemistry- and following for tips!

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 19/10/2023 22:20

I'm going to second Where the Crawdads Sing
And add
Little fires everywhere

junebirthdaygirl · 19/10/2023 22:26

Coming on to suggest the Rosie Project too...3 books in the series so read them in order.
Also love the two Olive Ketteridge and a Man called Ove
You have many treats ahead. Some of my favourite reads.

Another vote for Strange Sally Diamond
and Where The Crawdads Sing

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 19/10/2023 22:47

So much choice, they're all exactly what I'm after. They'll certainly stock me up for a while.

The Last Library by Freya Sampson has Eleanor Oliphant vibes too.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 21/10/2023 00:59

Paper Cup

Which also reminded me of Scabby Queen (it's a couple of years older but also a strong, slightly off-beam female protagonist).

Strange Sally Diamond is also great, but you might have got that already Smile

My sister the serial killer
I capture the castle

ninjasnap · 21/10/2023 01:16

Maybe a bit darker than you're looking for but I loved Eleanor and also: Sweet Pea by CJ Skuse, also loved My Dark Vanessa, The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart and The Good Samaritan which are in a similar vein I think....

Sunmoonstars33 · 21/10/2023 02:06

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
It is a bit darker than Oliphant but would highly recommend it. Does have a beautiful positive side to it despite the darkness.

Sunmoonstars33 · 21/10/2023 02:07

@ninjasnap I loved My Dark Vanessa! I'm not sure that's a good recommendation here tho because it's very very depressing.

Lavender14 · 21/10/2023 02:09

I loved where the crawdads sing, and currently really enjoying the Thursday murder club series.

TwistofFate · 21/10/2023 07:35

I'm currently reading The Last Library by Freya Sampson, and it's reminding me of Eleanor Oliphant. Heroine is a painfully shy and awkward recluse who is forced out of her safe, predictable routine when the council threatens to close the library where she works, and the local community comes together to save it.

Needhelp101 · 22/10/2023 00:26

A Kind of Intimacy, by Jenn Ashworth.

MrsHaroldRobbins · 22/10/2023 00:58

I would second A Kind of Intimacy. Also, The Cactus by Sarah Haywood. Very similar to Eleanor Oliphant.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 27/10/2023 20:01

Thank you all. On your recommendations I read Strange Sally Diamond. Bloody brilliant.
Just starting the Rosie Project. So pleased I started the threadSmile

So glad you enjoyed it. The Maid by Nita Prose might appeal to you too.

almay8830 · 27/10/2023 20:14

Following!

WGACA · 27/10/2023 20:20

The Maid

lndnbrdge91 · 27/10/2023 20:27

Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason is another you might like

Iwillnotdancewiththedevil · 27/10/2023 20:41

Dawn O'Porter, Cat Lady - don't be put off if you're not into cats 😂

The main character is a little like Eleanor Oliphant, in that you're never entirely sure if you like her or not.

Itsnotthatgrimupnorth · 27/10/2023 20:44

One puzzling afternoon-Emily Critchley

A beautiful, heartfelt tale of friendship as well as coping with memories and loss. Edie is the very special lead character whose presence stays with you long after finishing the book.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 28/10/2023 09:05

Wow so many more to add to my list! I've written them all down.

I'm looking for a local book club but can't find one. Has anyone started their own?
Maybe I should start a thread about it....

The Cassandra Complex - Holly Smales
The Sweetpea Series - darker Murder thriller type series but similar vibes that I can’t put my finger on!

BG2015 · 16/11/2023 19:03

The Last List of Mabel Beaumont by Laura Pearson

Inheritance by Jenny Eclair

The Seven Imperfect Rules of Elvira Carr by Frances Maynard (loved this book)

The Cactus by Sarah Haywood
