No chick lit.
No Richard and Judy recommendations. Not approved by Oprah. Can be modern or classic but must be wonderful. Can't be hard can it?

OOPS , just realised that was supposed to be a smile not an instruction.

Just finished 'On Chesil Beach' by Ian McEwan. Was VG.

nkf · 04/03/2008 21:45

I'm back and still listening. Started On Chesil Beach. Not sure why I didn't finish it.

'The Remains of The Day' by Kazou Ishiguro.

nkf · 04/03/2008 21:47

I have ordered The Thirteenth Tale, a TC Boyle novel and will hunt out Remains of the Day. That should keep me going. Thank you all.

Hi,

I'm a newbie here, hope you don't mind me butting in. 'The Testament of Gideon Mack' is IMO, a very good read, if you've read Hogg's 'The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner', you'll enjoy this (updated?) version

Agree that the Thirteenth Tale is FANTASTIC! Just finished it tonight and feel like I've lost a friend now it's over - how to fill the time?:

scottishmummy · 05/03/2008 23:17

must look out for thirteenth tale -ta for tip

JayneF · 05/03/2008 23:20

Try a classic: Silas Marner- George Eliot, short, beatufully written and other worldly.

or

A Modern little number: The Five People You Meet In Heaven - Mitch Albom - a real feel good factor and quite short too.
