Hello,

Whoever recommend Wool on here I owe you one. It is described as a masterpiece and I wholeheartedly agree. The absolute best book I have read in a very long time. Which is saying something as I average a book per week most of the time. I’m now on to shift and I feel the same. I have ordered dust as I will finish this in a couple of days I’m sure.

So whoever you are please recommend something else for when I finish this trilogy. Are his other books as good?

The passage -Justin Cronin
The stand - Stephen king
Lucifers hammer (it's a tiny bit sexist and racist but it was written in the 70s)
Swan song (same as above)

Love all of these and currently reading swan song for the 3rd time but NEVER got into Wool…

I also loved it, can’t believe they haven’t made a series out of it yet

Shesinthegym · 24/02/2023 19:26

Thank you.

I thought they were bringing out a series? I hope they do.

You should stick with wool. I started it about four times. It's a very slow start but worth it

BovrilonToast · 24/02/2023 19:27

I loved the trilogy so much I even read fan fiction.

Have a look for Sanctus by Simon Toyne... totally different but as gripping as Wool.

Shesinthegym · 24/02/2023 19:28

Going to order a couple of the recommendations now so they are ready for when I finish.

I love apocalyptic fiction. I couldn't get into Wool either though, even though it has been recommended by so many people! The Stand was great...following for other recommendations.

I loved Wool!

thimblewomble879 · 24/02/2023 19:29

The postman is worth a read as well. The film was terrible but I enjoyed the book

thimblewomble879 · 24/02/2023 19:30

Oh and world war z. Again truly terrible film, bore no resemblance to the book.
The book is amazing

I’m glad that you’ve recommended this - so many times I‘ve nearly purchased it but the reviews have been a bit mixed… will give it a go though.

I loved wool too! Always refer to housework as The Cleaning. Very underrated… what about Station Eleven, or The Wall?
oh and I loved The Last of Us - the one set in Scotland, so disappointed that the tv series is something completely different !

Who wrote the last of us. Seems to be loads on Amazon

BigBadBoom · 24/02/2023 19:38

I enjoyed Last Light by Alex Scarrow.

Petrarkanian · 24/02/2023 19:40

I'm really enjoying The Hail Mary Project by the bloke who wrote The Martian. I am listening to it and the narration is excellent

AwfulTed · 24/02/2023 19:41

@thimblewomble879 sorry, should have said, it’s by Rob Ewing. Pretty bleak but stays with you

Shesinthegym · 24/02/2023 19:46

Loving these recommendations. I have only just got into apocalyptic/dystopian books. I normally go for horror and crime.

I loved the Wool series, and also loved We Are Legion (We Are Bob). I listened to the books because I had an Audible credit to use up before stopping my account for a while. Once I'd listened to the first book I reopened my Audible account and bought the rest of them. Grin

triplecheeese · 24/02/2023 19:50

the thing I liked about Wool was the world building so if you're the same I would recommend Nod by Adrian Barnes - but only if you're prepared to stay awake yourself for the next 100 years. Seriously bleak (and excellent)

The City and the City by China Mieville was more enjoyable - the tv adaptation was totally off. The book is a lot more atmospheric.

I loved the Wool trilogy. I re-read it a couple of years ago, so need to leave it for a while longer!

DumpedinKilburn · 27/02/2023 09:20

I keep seeing, Wool pop up and, as I like dystopian fiction, am thinking of giving it a try.
But I see it is part of a trilogy and that the second book in the trilogy is a prequel.
Should I read the second book first?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/02/2023 12:18

No, it makes more sense to read it in order.

Shesinthegym · 27/02/2023 13:09

Yes definitely read it in order
