I'm reading Paper Dolls by Alex Smith suggested by JD Kirk when he popped onto a thread.

@hiredandsqueak read the rest in order, I loved the series.

I'm racing to finish The Book Thief.

I've got two others out from the library, due back at the end of Jan and I'm not going to have time to read them. And one has other holds on so I can't renew! AND I've got two MORE sitting on the hold shelf waiting for me to collect. Library book holds are like buses it seems - nothing for ages and then they all come at once!

This Must be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell. It's on the kindle deals.

RoseMartha · 07/01/2023 09:14

@Bbq1
It is quite compelling I am finding, I am just over half way.

Have you read any others by the same author? I stumbled across this book at a second hand charity book stall, and thought it looked a bit different.

Mybonnielad · 07/01/2023 09:16

The Green Mile, Stephen King. I saw the excellent film but hadn't realized until now that it's a book.

teachingbean · 07/01/2023 09:20

Michelle Obama - becoming

Girlintheframe · 07/01/2023 09:25

Im also reading American dirts. Half way through and really enjoying it.

DuncanBiscuits · 07/01/2023 09:28

The Hollows by Daniel Church. Very wintry and spooky.

Yes @RoseMartha I've also read The Vanishing Of Audrey Wilde and The Birdcage by Eve Chase. I'd really recommend them both especially The Birdcage. The Glasshouse is my favourite of the three. I really enjoy the multi layered characters she creates and the atmosphere created within the novels. I'm due to read her fourth, Black Rabbit Hall.

RampantIvy · 07/01/2023 09:28

I'm reading two at the moment. A book club book I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day by Milly Johnson. It's OK, not great, and full of cliches.
My other book is The King's Curse by Philippa Gregory.

@GracePooleslaugh have you read the "sequel" to GWTW? Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. I couldn't put it down. And judging from your nickname I guess you are a Jane Eyre fan. Have you read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys? It is the "prequel" to Jane Eyre.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/01/2023 09:31

Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller - it's about two middle-aged twins on the edge of society struggling to cope after their mothers death. It's pretty good so far. Got a pile of books for Christmas to look forward to!

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 07/01/2023 09:32

Men who hate women by Laura Bates

A very interesting read about incels, male terrrorism and other misogyny

Xiaoxiong · 07/01/2023 09:33

Finishing up Danubia by Simon Winder. Haven't laughed so much in ages, definitely going to read his other books next.

TidyupNowplease · 07/01/2023 13:43

The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett. I enjoyed her first book The Appeal.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 07/01/2023 13:46

A thriller I picked up in a charity shop - It Ends at Midnight, by Harriet Tyce.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 07/01/2023 13:48

Pure by Andrew Miller.

RoseMartha · 07/01/2023 14:30

@Bbq1 That is good to know, I will find another one if hers to read later on. Ty

Hi! No I haven't read the GWTW sequel but sounds like I need to!

I am indeed a huge Jane Eyre fan, I read it every year and have read Wide Sargasso Sea as well. I enjoyed it and thought it added another dimension although I give Mr R the benefit of the doubt because he's funny!

Wildernesstips · 07/01/2023 20:09

I’ve just started Little Boy Lost by Marganita Laski

Scout2016 · 07/01/2023 21:31

@Wildernesstips I've just finished Little Lost Boy, be interested to hear what you think.

Scout2016 · 07/01/2023 21:32

Bah, Little Boy Lost even!

SweetSakura · 07/01/2023 21:34

Wintering by Katherine May. what a wonderful book and perfect for a cold rainy weekend when my chronic condition is flaring and I need to make myself rest

chocolateisavegetable · 07/01/2023 21:36

Currently reading “Stories for Ukraine” - collection of short stories donated by various authors to raise money for Ukraine. Really enjoying it.

BenoitBlanc · 07/01/2023 23:29

Hooray! I finished The Book Thief. I can't quite decide what I thought about it.

Now I get to start Femina - A New History of the Middle Ages, Through the Women Written Out of It - by Janina Ramirez. It looks very interesting but might be a bit dry and difficult for me. I'm quite a lightweight reader usually. Also it's due back at the library on the 27th and I've no chance of finishing it by then. I will probably end up skimming it.

The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett. I enjoyed her first book The Appeal.

I loved The Appeal but The Twyford Code was one of the worst books that I have ever read. That said, I have her new one on order-I think it's called the Alpherton Angels, as there is a 50%chance it will be good.

This weekend, I'm reading Tudor England-a History by Lucy Wooding, although I hadn't realised that it was such a weighty tome when I ordered it from the library. It will take more than one weekend!
