26-ish books for 2023

A shiny new thread for 2023. There didn't appear to be one do hope it's ok that I have created it this year.

All welcome and note 26 is just a number. Everyone can set their own target and you are welcome here even if you only read 3 books a year.

I personally count the larger novel style books I read to my children and audio books I listen to. Others don't and there are no rules.

I look forward to all your suggestions again this year.

Just finished Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson - a nice easy read

Chickoletta · 01/01/2023 15:27

Happy new year everyone!
I dropped off the thread quite early last year as life got in the way a bit but am starting 2023 with the best of intentions.
I’m currently reading and enjoying Hugh Boneville’s autobiography, Playing Under the Piano.

EspeciallyDetermined · 01/01/2023 15:35

Thank you @Tinkhasflown . I am also reading Hugh Bonneville’s Playing Under the Piano.

princessspotify · 01/01/2023 15:38

Happy New Year.
I also dropped off the thread due to work, husband having an accident and starting my degree.
I'm not going to put so much pressure on myself but will read as much as I can.

MercuryRising · 01/01/2023 16:03

I would love to join you. I started with good intentions last year but spent more time mindlessly scrolling online than reading. I'm currently reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and am aiming to finish it before I return to work on Tuesday.

dollybird · 01/01/2023 16:56

I read 25 in the end last year. Currently reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's a bit weird, so slow going, and I want to start my new Bridgerton books!

readingismycardio · 01/01/2023 17:11

Happy New Year! My target is always 50, sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't. I have read 47 in 2022, so I was really close! I am currently reading steppewolf by Herman Hesse, as my first book of the year. Flowers

GoodMorningMrMagpie · 01/01/2023 17:16

Great idea! I use Goodreads Reading Challenge to keep motivated to actively read instead of watching too much tv or internet browsing but it would be lovely to engage with other readers

Just finished reading The Night Circus which was wonderful - currently reading Billy Connolly's autobiography Windswept and Interesting which I will dip in and out of over the next couple of months. I always have a novel, an audiobook and some nonfiction on the go at the same time.

Happy New Reading Year!

drspouse · 01/01/2023 17:50

I'm currently reading a very New Year-y chick lit I got in the book Secret Santa at my very "be kind, 20 something" book group. I need a new book group.

Yuja · 01/01/2023 17:54

Happy new year and thanks for the new thread! I joined the last thread and read 28 books last year (with a different username) which was way more than I thought I would manage. This year I hope to equal that number or even a couple more. I Was bought a book for Xmas that I started yesterday and had the luxury of almost a whole day to myself to finish. So I am kicking off with

1. Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus

There were some great moments in this and I found it a very enjoyable read- a good start to the reading year.

ThelmaDinkley · 01/01/2023 18:12

Just halfway through the Haunting Season collection of ghost stories. Hope to get more reading done this year.

Retsina24 · 01/01/2023 18:17

Ohhh, can I join you.
Read 25 books last year which is low for me. Setting this years target at 45. Will see how we get on.
Current read (expecting to finish tonight):
Fairy Tale by Stephen King

Ponks · 01/01/2023 19:18

Joining the thread for 2023, just finished Dolphin Junction by Mick Herron, a great way to start the year.

MargotMoon · 01/01/2023 19:31

Happy new year all, thanks for the new thread @Tinkhasflown

Phos · 01/01/2023 19:33

I have set my target at 50 this year. I don't mean to brag. I've steadily increased it year on year.

Anyway my first of the year is a re-read, but a few years have elapsed and I can't really remember much about it. It's called The Pearl That Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi and it's about a girl in Afghanistan whose family decides she would be a "bacha posh" - a practice in which families without sons pick a daughter to live and behave as a boy. This enables the child to live more freely: attending school, escorting her sisters in public, and working

Phos · 01/01/2023 19:34

@Yuja I've been considering that one!

evtheria · 01/01/2023 19:36

First time joining! Read some brilliant things last year so fingers crossed this time will be just as good:

1/26: Resurrection by Mick Herron
I love the slow horses series, this is meant to be slightly linked.

I loved this. I thought Elizabeth Zott was a total legend.

Bookloverlover · 01/01/2023 19:40

Oh I'd love to join for 2023 😀
Currently reading:

  • Girl Forgotten - Karin Slaughter.

I have a physical TBR pile of 5 books that I'm hoping to get through in January. I'm a quick reader when a book really grabs me to this should be easily done for me, as long as I can find time (3yo & 1yo often make this difficult!)

Bookloverlover · 01/01/2023 19:42

@Iamblossom blood orange was a favourite of mine last year too! I finished it ends and midnight yesterday. Same author. Not as good as blood orange I don't think but still a good read

thefinaltwist · 01/01/2023 19:45

Hi can I join please? I love reading but can be slow when life gets in the way. Some big readers on this post! I would like to aim for one a month I'm starting today with The House of Eyes by Kate Ellis. I'm a big crime fiction fan!

SaintKilda · 01/01/2023 20:00

Hi..can I join?

I read 26 books last year. Currently reading "under the whispering door" by TJ Klune....this a new author for me and so far it's good!

Orangebadger · 01/01/2023 20:41

I followed last years thread. Think I read 22 books last year then life got in the way on many levels. So life still not fully settled so probably won't read 26 books this year. But starting with an Xmas present Love Untold by Ruth Jones.
