Right I hope the title gives it away. Spoilers ahoy after / during reading Galbraith's The Ink Black Heart.

I swear if someone complains about spoilers now I'll lose it Grin

She is, it's not her priority or purpose. But I don't think she actively wants a life without children. She's just not making her life decisions based around it. She might, she might not.

I think eventually she will, but who knows. She gets plenty of fulfilment elsewhere.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 02/11/2022 19:35

Yes! Ban rain and dark nights please!! X

ChillinwiththeVillains · 15/11/2022 15:18

Sorry, I have just realised that I sent a WhatsApp message on this chat in error. I had been admiring all your discussions of the book and enjoying insights. And all I write is a stupid comment about the weather. Whoops.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/11/2022 15:59

Ha, chillin, I wondered about the origin of that comment! Grin

ChillinwiththeVillains · 15/11/2022 17:07

I fear that my career as top literary critic is not off to a great start!

KillingMeDeftly · 15/11/2022 18:48

FWIW I agree with you @ChillinwiththeVillains!

OytheBumbler · 16/11/2022 20:07

Just finished it tonight. Absolutely bloody loved it!

Can anyone explain why Nils was never a suspect? I must've missed that bit in the book so all the way through I wondered why they weren't following him- he was a very strange man!

I also would've liked more follow up on the other characters, like Bram. What a horrible kid! And Josh! I'm so invested now, I can't believe it's finished.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 16/11/2022 21:18

I started rewatching the TV shows today as I am really hoping that Troubled Blood is shown over Christmas or early in the new year. I do like Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger as embodiments of Strike and Robin.
Cuckoo’s Calling first episode included lots of dark nights but atmospheric snow . Which is a lot more acceptable than all the rain.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 16/11/2022 21:21

@OytheBumbler I do love the way that nearly every character in the books is someone who feels quite real and as if they have a life of their own that carries on even after we step away from them. I think JKR is so skilful at making you understand a bit of what drives the people in her books and to care about what happens to them.

soulinablackberrypie · 18/11/2022 09:47

I don't know why exactly, but Zoe thought he was Anomie. Maybe they would have followed up that line of investigation if they hadn't been so close to cracking it already.

Troubled blood begins on the 11th December on TV 😀

Oh yay!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 25/11/2022 07:38

Oooh!! Exciting. I'm going to need to find a way to watch it without BBC, I've just cancelled my TV licence!

KillingMeDeftly · 25/11/2022 08:17

Oh exciting! I love Tom Burke, he's not conventionally handsome but he's so damn sexy.

It would make life a lot simpler if TV licences worked on the Netflix principle where you could subscribe if there’s something you want to watch, then cancel again.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 25/11/2022 14:47

It would be very helpful! As it is I think I'll have to watch it round my mum's house. And put up with her talking through it!

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 16/09/2022 09:16

If J K Rowling staked out the area before deciding to put Robin there, it might just mean that she's used your local chip shop too.

I'm from Warwick, so love to think of her styling down Smith Street when she was researching TB! I frequent the art shop that they go into and park my car in front of Aleister Crowley's birthplace when I go into Leamington!

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 26/11/2022 11:55

Did anyone else wonder what qualified Zoe to be a mod? Connections, & maybe she had the tech skills but it’s hard to imagine her enforcing rules etc. Although maybe that only went as far as people being warned & then banned for breaking Rule 14.

User478 · 26/11/2022 14:04

I think Zoë's main mod skill was always being in the game!

There is that!

Suedomin · 26/11/2022 19:30

I have just finished it and loved it. I think it's the best Strike book yet. I sort of guessed who it was but only but it was a fluke more than anything . I want Strike and Robin to stop messing around and tell each other how they feel though!
I think the books are so much better than the TV series.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 26/11/2022 21:33

I think books are always better than the TV & film versions. But Holliday Granger & Tom Burke are great casting.

Yay! Hardly any time to wait- that is better than I was expecting.
And yes @littlepeas I love all the location spotting. Comic-Con, Whitstable and Warwick all on my list of familiar places (didn’t actually make it to comic con but lived nearby and little nephew used to love catching the DLR to watch all the funny people).

ReneBumsWombats · 27/11/2022 20:17

Troubled Blood was actually the first Strike book I read. I heard it was barnstormingly transphobic, an utter hatefest against trans people.

I don't know exactly what I expected, but it wasn't for there to be no trans character in it!
