Travelling soon and debating installing my kindle account on DD's iPad. I've a couple of Rick Riordan books on there that she can read but apart from that, all my books are definitely more adult than child.
She reads a lot, and quickly. Just at the end of Harry Potter so I need new ideas for her anyway.

Diana Wynne Jones is excellent for both adults and children.

GetThatHelmetOn · 12/05/2022 13:52

War Horse, DS brought it from school and I really enjoyed it.

Exactly what I was going to say. Chrestomanci series is brilliant.

what about Joan Aiken?

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/05/2022 14:01

Terry Pratchett - the Wee Free Men series or the Truckers books. All very enjoyable for adults.

Am I being a bit dense? Why do you have to share the books? Alternative would be to download Kindle on your phone.

BreezeofGreen · 12/05/2022 14:38

Why do you have to share the books?
Because if they're in my library, I'll feel obliged to read them 😀

Polar express
Pax
How to Train your Dragon series (especially good on audible with David Tennant narrating!)
goodnight Mr Tom
The Boy at the Back of the Class (and the bus one and lion one)
when Hitler stole Pink Rabbit
most of the Michael Morpurgo books
The Land of Roar
wonder
The Good Bear
Northern Lights trilogy
Night Train Series
The Explorers (and Rooftoppers)
Beetle Boy
Fish Boy
oh I could go on and on….Love reading and have enjoyed reading lots of these with my boys, having them read to me (hearing them read) or reading to myself

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 14:52

Eva Ibbotson books

Innocenta · 12/05/2022 14:54

Oh, also Adèle Geras, but not the fairytale trilogy as there's some rape content. Some of her children's books are lovely, though.

CloudPine · 12/05/2022 14:55

His Dark Materials.

SittingontheSidelines · 12/05/2022 15:03

Garth Nix. All good. Some slightly more mature than others.

Danikm151 · 12/05/2022 15:05

His Dark Materials trilogy (although some of it can be quite creepy)
The worst witch books
The Narnia Chronicles
Good Omens
The princess bride
Ransom Riggs- Miss Pereguines Home for Peculiar children
A series of unfortunate events(that's probably the one most relevant to her age)

Rosehugger · 12/05/2022 15:05

I, Coriander was very good. DD1 was reading it at school but I ended up tearing through it myself.

Solosunrise · 12/05/2022 15:06

Wolf Brother series
The Edge Chronicle
Michael Morpurgo books

resipsa · 12/05/2022 15:13

Yes to whoever mentioned the Adventures on Trains books. Was a trilogy but think there might be 5 now. Very readable.

SittingontheSidelines · 12/05/2022 15:18

And Alan Garner. (The earlier ones, the most recent are not so readable. ). The weird stone of Brisingamen and it's sequal. Red shift. The owl service.

And my son loved the Alex Rider books, The Young James Bond series and the HIVE series.

Redfloweryellowflower · 12/05/2022 15:19

Terry pratchet Tiffany aching/wee free men books
Philip pull an his dark materials
Little grey men by BB

arethereanyleftatall · 12/05/2022 15:19

Dd and I loved the Anne of Green gables series. There's 7 books in all. I had thought there was just the first one for years! We love Anne.

ClaudiusTheGod · 13/05/2022 22:21

Louis Sachar is perfect for this. Start with Holes. Brilliant book. When it was first published, there was a paperback cover for children and a different one for adults, in the way that Harry Potter was published for a while.

duvetdrama · 13/05/2022 22:26

Wonder

FleurDeLizz · 13/05/2022 22:30

Eva ibbotson, Diane wynn Jones and also Frances Hardinge is an excellent YA writer.

the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix is great but there’s lots of description of dead things and a mention of an uncircumcised penis so it depends if you think she will be ok with all that. Other than that it has excellent female leads, great storytelling, imaginative magic.

IDontDrinkTea · 13/05/2022 22:32

The Magyk series by Angie Sage is a really pleasant read

LouisRenault · 13/05/2022 22:46

E. Nesbit - some of the humour will go over the heads of children, but will be appreciated by an adult.

Arthur Ransome - for a child, they're stories of children having adventures sailing and camping. For an adult, they are loving descriptions of life in the Lakes and in the Norfolk Broads as it was in the 1930s.

cameocat · 13/05/2022 22:50

Eragon series or Ranger's Apprentice series. Both brilliant.
