I need a Chalet School fix

Please help:

Where can I download a Chalet School book? I'm astonished that I cannot find any as ebook.

(When you're under the weather, nothing quite hits the spot like a bit of EBD escapism.)

Fabulous photos @BoffinMum thanks for posting! I'd love to visit sometime, adored the Chalet School books!

BoffinMum · 19/08/2022 08:38

Sadly no buttery potato balls, as I am low carb!

DS said, ‘This is like mum’s Dr Who really, isn’t it?’ as we did a pilgrimage to those locations recently. It actually feels a bit less thrilling than I would have thought, visiting the sites. More like historical research. The younger me would have found it more exciting, I think. Perhaps the absence of Austrian farmers’ wives wearing dirndls round every corner, and neat little Englishwoman in impeccably tailored tweed suits and well-loved leather walking boots, has something to do with that. If everyone wears GoreTex and drinks Aperol Spritz while checking their phones all the time, it feels less geographically distinctive 😁 That having been said, on Sunday we walked up a mountain and there was a women’s folk group randomly performing choral music with gentle yodelling on the sun terrace while we all ate our Wurst. Very authentic!

It is certainly great fun here as this is a gorgeous part of the world and such a lovely place for a holiday. I would strongly recommend it for families of all ages.

It sounds lovely and I'm enjoying your pictures and descriptions of the place. I used to love the Chalet series and I still dip into them for a comfort read.

chouxpetitfilous · 21/08/2022 07:28

Just found this thread, is anyone willing to send me the kindle link please? Smile

Parker231 · 21/08/2022 08:24

@chouxpetitfilous - I have the books - if you pm me your email address, I’ll send them over!

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/08/2022 22:21

Lovely photos BoffinMum. So jealous.

Definitely going to plan a trip to Achensee at some point.

Doubleraspberry · 27/08/2022 07:32

@BoffinMum waving at you from the Sporthotel (sadly leaving today) and agreeing with you on the loveliness of the Achensee and staying here (we’ve been a few times, originally on a MN recommendation!). I’m impressed you managed to stay low carb here though.

We once walked round the whole lake. It took about eight hours including a couple of breaks but was so beautiful. But going up into the mountains is a great way to capture some Chaletian energy.

My own DD can’t bear the Chalet School sadly. She thinks it’s dull.

BoffinMum · 27/08/2022 08:16

Doubleraspberry, shame we didn’t see each other there! We could have had drinkies in the Seealm!

Doubleraspberry · 27/08/2022 09:17

Absolutely! I sat over my last breakfast this morning reading the Gillian fill in (untouched until now and not really inspiring me) as this thread made me think I should make the effort to signal to any other hidden Chalet fans staying: it’s now covered in chocolate cake.

We’ve just booked our return though so maybe next time!

Stumbled on this thread and hoping anyone could please share the kindle link with me as well! I’ve missed this series 💙

I hold all the books in a kindle version. If you pm me your email address I’ll send them over!

I also stumbled upon this thread in hopes that I could find the books in ebook form. I had previously read most of the Chalet School books that were available on Archive.org and Faded Pages and was going through them again hoping there were more (thankfully there was). There were quite a few gaps, so I'd love to read the whole series all the way through!

WhyWhyWhyMum · 30/11/2022 00:17

Me too please 📚 💕

Parker231 · 30/11/2022 07:31

If you pm me your email address I can send you the books

LaurelGrove · 30/11/2022 22:57

@Parker231 does one have to be a paid up MN member to PM? For Chalet School books I would join!

No, you can PM for free Smile

Any chance I could be sent the kindle link as well? Thanks in advance! @Parker231

If you like Chalet School or even Abbey Girls you might like The Convalescent Corpse by Nicola Slade (spotted a few EBD and EJO easter eggs).

Mella135 · 06/04/2023 17:14

I discovered this thread way too late 😭I grew up reading the books in my school's library. Is it possible for me to get a link please?

Katiechalet · 20/01/2024 22:53

Jumping in to bump this thread! I started re-reading over the holidays, but came to a screeching halt after the book where the finishing branch opens (makeup! Ungentlemanly men!) Does anyone know where I can find library or pdf or kindle of the rest of the series? I’ve looked everywhere!

I do wish GGBP would publish kindle editions. Sigh.

thanks!

DameAlyson · 21/01/2024 15:09

Fadedpage has now reached the Swiss era. The most recent one is Mary Lou, though I think there are one or two missing before that. We are getting to the time when both Joey and Mary Lou become insufferable.

(And for anyone who enjoyed Biggles as a child, the Biggles books are also becoming available on faded page. And the Abbey books, as mentioned earlier in the thread.)

I don’t think I’ve read that one in about 20 years — is that the one where Peggy tells the prim girl she SHOULD wear powder and nice pink lipstick because people have to look at your face? And there’s someone who plays bridge on Sunday, and once went to a roadhouse with an unsuitable man who then wrote to her?

Katiechalet · 21/01/2024 21:46

Thanks! I must have just caught up!

and yes, Joey in particular is insufferable. I don’t much like Jack either. He’s so … officious.

DeanElderberry · 26/01/2024 16:27

Thank you for the faded page link - at long last I can read the bit that my copy of Bride Leads lacks.

Oooh, which bit is missing from your edition?
