Oh god I LOVE (a) AM (b) that kd lang cover.

He's much loved here, Kerrymum. Especially by Martianbishop and me. We fight over who gets to be his faghag.

I will of course win this fight as I am roughly twice the size of MI!

motherinferior · 30/11/2007 21:05

You can get all his books in Smiths, which hardly suggests obscurity. I read the whole series when incapacitated with a sprained ankle about 18 years ago.

Blandmum · 30/11/2007 21:05

His ex partmner, Terry?? I thought that he was doing very well on protease inhibitors.

AM is now married to another man.

motherinferior · 30/11/2007 21:06

Yes, MB, but I am the one considering gender reassignment surgery to offer him my newly customised body. (If he won't have me I'll try Rufus Wainwright.)

Blandmum · 30/11/2007 21:07

I just found my copy of 'Baby cakes' which I've lost in the mass of books for several years.

I've just started re-reading it

[sigh]

such a luxury and pleasure

Blandmum · 30/11/2007 21:07

Ohh is Rufus a Friend of Dorothy as well?

rethinks the surgery option

mandymac · 30/11/2007 21:08

Oh I love his books too. My first landlady in Nottingham had a signed poster of one of books, she had met him. In fact, I think the fact that I noticed it and got so excited when I saw it got me the flat.

Blandmum · 30/11/2007 21:09

she didn't give you a home make smoke when you first moved in? lady by the name of Anna???? [win]

MerryAnnSinglemas · 30/11/2007 21:18

Can I put in a bid for very long time Armistead Maupin fan ?? have had 2 books signed by him - I jabbered at him senselessly in my excitement at meeting him - love him so much !!

She was a lesbian and there was a lovely gay guy living in the flat upstairs - so it was pretty close!

seeker · 30/11/2007 21:30

He was so lovely on DID - it prompted me to stary a thread about Desperado being the best pop song of all time!

I went on a pilgrimage to Barbary Lane when I was in San Francisco a few years ago.

Vulgar · 30/11/2007 21:38

I listened to it again -in peace and quiet this time and it was great. he sounds such a nice guy. Must read "The night listener" now!

DH has just told me he's never heard of Armisted Maupin OR Tales of the City.

I switched on the radio to hear whatsername saying something about the gay character in the books... I instantly thought it was him before he spoke.

How are we on such diferent planets???

I loved his anecdote about taking his partner to meet his father.

PanTheBruce · 01/12/2007 00:19

The Night Listener - couldn't get into it at all..too fanciful and obscure, in weirdy way..tried to blame AM for my failings in this, that he was keen to break away from Mouse at al, and take a different direction/subject matter...beat myself up for NOT loving an AM book!! Felt disloyal, but couldn't help it.

noyummymummy · 01/12/2007 07:50

midnightexpress, it took me a while to get into Night Listener - I was expecting the same style as the tales books but it's nothing like them. It was one of those books that made you think and was intriguing in a creepy sort of way but not something I would put on my top 10 list... sorry it's 7;30AM and I'm probably not making sense - PantheBruce sums it up

MerryAnnSinglemas · 01/12/2007 11:54

I didn't like the Night Listener that much either, though it pains me to admit -I'm too wedded to Tales of the City
