Any suggestions of series you’ve loved? I have really enjoyed:
Rendell’s Wexford; Leon’s Brunetti; Lloyd and Hill; P.D. James; Elly Griffiths; Ann Cleeves; Josephine Tey; Nicola Upson; Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency; Strike; Agatha Christie...
I’d love some ideas of what else I might like! Thanks in anticipation.

Have heard good things about Nicci French's Frieda Klein series. Not read them yet but I have read several of their stand-alone novels and enjoyed them.

Skinandbones · 06/02/2021 17:35

Marcia muller, her Sharon McCone are brilliant and there's quite a few if you like them.

newtb · 06/02/2021 17:36

The books by LJ Ross set in Northumberland are good.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 06/02/2021 17:40

Another vote for Marcia Muller's Sharon McCone books, also:

Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series
Laura Lippman's Tess Monaghan series
Sara Paretsky's VI Warshawski series

All fabulous female PIs.

I've just started reading some Icelandic crime novels by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. Love them. I like the fact they're set in a country I know nothing about, and they all tend to have a little twist in them.

Lougle · 06/02/2021 17:48

Lee Child's Jack Reacher series - a nice combination of crime, action, thriller. No massively detailed sexual crime (why I stopped reading James Patterson and Martina Cole).

Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series, although Blow Fly onwards seemed to get a bit darker.

John Grisham - Crime/legal/thriller. Great books.

Alex Smith books - DCI Kett based in Norwich.

Agree with @SpeckledyHen Cara Hunter's Adam Fawley books are great.

hiredandsqueak · 06/02/2021 17:58

Ian Rankin's Rebus is probably my all time favourite.
Michael Robotham's Joe O'loughlin and Cyrus Haven spin off also great.
Angela Madson's DI Kim Stone and of course Robert Galbraith's Cormoran Strike are gripping reads as well.

hiredandsqueak · 06/02/2021 18:01

Oh and I forgot Denzil Meyrick's DCI Daley series and Peter May's various series have all been good.

TheDiceWoman1 · 06/02/2021 18:05

James Patterson women's murder club series !

I really like them and I only read crime.

Completely different but the Marcus Didius Falco stories set in Rome at the time of Vespasian (first century). I find the minutiae of Roman life fascinating. If you enjoy those the second series centred on his daughter are actually if anything better.

MiraWard1 · 06/02/2021 18:19

Another vote for the Val McDermid catalogue. All brilliant

GuppytheCat · 06/02/2021 18:23

I got cheesed off with Falco after a throwaway remark about him ‘glancing at a merchant’s prices and thinking they must have put an extra zero in the end.’

But I’m a pedant.

GuppytheCat · 06/02/2021 18:24

What’s more, I’m a pedant who can’t spell ‘on’ Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/02/2021 18:28

Womens Murder Club series by James Patterson with Maxine Paetro

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/02/2021 19:00

DI Ruth Hunter series by Simon McCleave..., Starts with Snowdonia Killings

DCI Ryan by LJ Ross as already mentioned

If you don't mind gloomy and a bit depressing... Lasser series by Robin Roughly

James Patterson books seem to be on offer on Kindle at the moment... I've enjoyed Coast to Coast Murders. Worth the 99p.
