Hi, I love dystopian fiction and would love to read some new books.

Can I ask for any of your recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Another vote for station eleven, its my absolute favorite and I've read most of the novels recommended on here!
One not to bother with - the passage by Justin Cronin, I think I read it based on a MN recommendation, it starts well but quickly becomes absolute drivel, and the worst part is that I didn't know it was the first of a trilogy so I suffered to the end only to find it didn't come to any conclusion!

Nisse1 · 03/02/2021 14:26

Another one for John Wyndham here. The Day of the Triffids is a fantastic book.

Frenchfancy · 03/02/2021 15:35

I agree about Day of the Triffids.

Just bought Station 11 thanks to this thread.

I absolutely love The Passage. I’ve just read it for the second time and was just as gripped as the first time. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Cam2020 · 03/02/2021 16:32

How could I have forgotten about The Stand?!

BellaBella36 · 03/02/2021 16:44

Oh my days so many excellent book recommendations, see you on the other side! My gateway books when I was little we're Jean Ure's Plague 99 and John marsden's Tomorrow when the war began.

Just read the sequels 😊😉
TheHound86 · 04/02/2021 19:29

I’ve just finished the last one for the second time. I love the whole trilogy Smile

bimbimbap · 04/02/2021 19:38

i’ve got a lot of ideas of books to check out now! surprised only one person has mentioned the death of grass - it’s EXCELLENT!

Are they are good as the original? I have the second one here to read
DoctorYang · 04/02/2021 20:31

Age of Miracles
Before and After (quite weird but I enjoyed it!)

VienneseWhirligig · 04/02/2021 20:37

The Midwich Cuckoos

JustSaying101 · 04/02/2021 20:48

Kurt Vonnegut

amylou8 · 04/02/2021 20:56

Rama (all 4 books) - Arthur C Clarke/Stephen Baxter... strictly speaking it's sci-fi but becomes much more involved and dystopian from the second book. Absolutely my favourite series, but I'm a big sci-fi fan too.
Someone already mentioned Doomsday Book - Connie Wills. Again not strictly dystopian but definitely would appeal to people who like that genre.

Theredjellybean · 04/02/2021 21:08

Another vote for The Mandibles by Lionel shriver... Brilliant book.
The passage was good but the next two got ever more silly and I lost the plot rather...

TheHound86 · 07/02/2021 17:24

I really enjoyed the entire passage trilogy to be honest. I was gripped by all of them. I’m just reading Children of Time and loving it so far.

SlipperyLizard · 08/02/2021 18:34

My favourite John Wyndham is the Kraken Wakes but they’re all brilliant.

I need to check a lot of these out!

lazylinguist · 08/02/2021 18:44

The Country of Ice Cream Star by Sandra Newman. Astonishing book!

Twisique · 08/02/2021 18:46

Another vote for Earth Abides!

Askance · 08/02/2021 18:49

The Wall, by Marlen Haushofer. Has stayed with me years after I read it.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 08/02/2021 18:53

Nevil Shute - On the Beach
Max Brooks - World War Z

mum2jakie · 14/02/2021 16:31

I enjoyed The Circle by Dave Eggers. It looks as though it's been made into a TV series due to be aired on Channel Four too.

mum2jakie · 14/02/2021 16:38

My mistake - the channel four series is a reality TV series not an adaption of the book

sneakysnoopysniper · 14/02/2021 18:12

Frank Herberts "Dune" series.
