Any suggestions? I like how her books are funny but do still tackle quite heavy subjects. Any similar recommendations?

Following as I loved her books about the Walsh sisters.

I like the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella too but they definitely aren't serious or heavy. Have you read Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult? That's a good book.

Mhairi McFarlane - Any of her books. Very funny and touching.

Elderflower14 · 02/11/2020 22:02

I like Katie Fforde..

BeTheHokeyMan · 02/11/2020 22:03

Catherine alliot is great too I often find myself laughing out loud at her books

AliasGrape · 02/11/2020 22:05

Agree with Mhairi McFarlane.

The author I’ve found most similar to Keyes in Johnathan Harvey. I really like his books.

userxx · 02/11/2020 22:06

@BeTheHokeyMan Agree, I used to really enjoy her books.

MLMbotsgoaway · 02/11/2020 22:06

@gretagreengrapes me too - I think she’s writing another one now which is very exciting.

Try Victoria Routledge

I particularly enjoyed 'Friends like these' and 'Kiss Him Goodbye'

KodakNancyEurope · 02/11/2020 22:18

Joanna Trollope!

Yes I’m 1,000 years old Grin

MLMbotsgoaway · 02/11/2020 23:06

I used to love Trollope.

Cathy Kelly, another Irish writer. Not particularly funny but enjoyable and heartwarming.

abbey44 · 02/11/2020 23:20

I'm reading a book by Sheila O'Flanagan (Suddenly Single), which I'm enjoying.

I really like Adele Parks and Jane Fallon, I've never been disappointed with their books.

MLMbotsgoaway · 02/11/2020 23:30

@AliasGrape ah I really like his books too - I may have a look and see if there are any I’ve missed as read a few a couple of years ago now.

@abbey44 I find Jane Fallon’s obsession with revenge a bit unnerving. I imagine Ricky must always be looking over his shoulder Grin

Second Luanw Moriarty.

The Cazelet chronicles too, often recommended on here are like a cross between Marian Keyes and Downton Abbey.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 03/11/2020 02:27

Danielle Hawkins, an NZ writer is excellent. Also Monica McInenery.

abbey44 · 04/11/2020 20:14

@MLMbotsgoaway I never thought of her books like that, but now you've mentioned it, I think you're absolutely right Grin

Martinisarebetterdirty · 04/11/2020 20:18

Try Jane Green - Mr Maybe is a frothier version of a Marian or the Sunshine Sisters has some heavier moments. Most of her books are pretty good though.

Ellisisland · 15/12/2020 09:53

The OMG What a Complete Aisling books are the closest I have read to Marian Keyes. Set in Ireland - country girl working in Dublin. There are 3 in the series so far

Knackerelli · 23/12/2020 12:21

I like Alice Peterson, enjoyable reads but around a ‘subject’.
